Fenerbahce President, Ali Koc has pleaded with football-loving fans in the club to lend a helping hand in funding Mesut Ozil‘s salary as the German midfield maestro set to join the Turkish giants.

Recall that Ozil is set to move to Turkey on a free transfer, following his lack of playing times under Mikel Arteta at Emirates Stadium. He is presently in Istanbul to finalize his move to the club.

However, Ali had bemoaned the financial crises that have rocked the club- the club is on £460 million debt- at which the free transfer of Ozil might be a potential straw that will break the camel’s back.

Following the recent financial deficiency at Fenerbahce, Ali had bagged fans of the club to help pay the salary (13 million euros) of the former Real Madrid player. The donation will come from SMS (two euros per text).

“We have a request for our fans. Please continue to support us, we are also dependent on your financial support” The Fenerbache chief pleaded with fans

He implored the fans to support the club when Ozil appends his signature to seal the deal.
“On the day of the signature, I will ask you to break a record. With an SMS campaign. Maybe 300,000, 500,000, or maybe even a million text messages come together. This support will do us very well.” Koc said.

The text message structure is tagged ‘Mesutol campaign’ will amount to two euros which will be sent to 1907- the year at which the club was founded.

Reports claimed that Ozil will be earning 3.5 million euros per annum until 2024. The midfielder was earning close to 18 million euros per annum at Emirates.

Koc also revealed the club is hoping to receive a huge amount of money through Ozil’s shirt sales.

The German hinted that he could wear the number 67 shirt in Turkey.
