FC Porto Sign Ajax Right-Back Jorge Sánchez

FC Porto have reportedly signed Mexican defender Jorge Sánchez from Ajax, to bolster their team.

Despite rumors of a potential return to Mexico, the Portuguese side eventually acquired Sanchez on a loan deal with the option to purchase the Mexican right-back at the end of the season.

The details of the agreement with Ajax were finalized on Thursday morning, August 24 ensuring that Sergio Conceição get a desired option for the right flank of the team’s defense.

The 25-year-old Mexican international has joined the Dragão on a loan deal from the Amsterdam club as he seeks to maximize his playing time.

The deal includes a purchase option of four million euros, which will become mandatory if certain conditions are met.

Details of the contract were reported early this morning by Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano who also mentioned that FC Porto will have the option to purchase Sánchez for four million euros.

If the right-back has played more than 15 matches, the buy option becomes a requirement.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano lately reported that FC Porto have been engaged in ongoing discussions to sign the experienced defender, Jorge Sánchez from Ajax.

Sanchez firmly stated his intention to stay in Europe having received offers from Rennes, as well as clubs from Spain and England. However, FC Porto ultimately emerged as the winner in the race to sign him.

Jorge Sánchez, who started training at Santos Laguna, gained popularity while playing for América. During his time at América, he had the opportunity to play alongside former Porto players Marchisin and Uribe.

Last summer, Ajax acquired Jorge Sánchez from Club América for a transfer fee of five million euros.

In his debut season in Amsterdam, the 25-year-old defender made 26 appearances across all competitions. He managed to score three goals and contributed three assists.

Jorge Sánchez’s versatility has earned him a spot on the tricolor selection, where he has played in five matches during this year’s Gold Cup.

However, in recent months, the 36-time Mexico international has experienced a decline in his position at the Johan Cruyff Arena as Ajax coach, Maurice Steijn has made it clear that he does not intend to utilize him during this season.

FC Porto sign Sánchez to bolster their defense

Last season, FC Porto secured the second position in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. They finished the race for the title two points behind Benfica.

Currently, Porto’s squad consists of two right-backs that include 23-year-old João Mário and Carraça, who is 30 years old.

It is believed that bringing Sánchez to the team would provide them with an additional option as they strive to secure their 31st league title.

Next for Jorge Sánchez

Jorge Sánchez is likely to be enlisted with the Dutch team on their trip to Bulgaria for the first leg of the Europa League play-off against Ludogorets today, August 24.

Afterwards, he will return to the Netherlands tomorrow and will be waiting for the necessary documentation to travel to Portugal. Ideally, he expects to receive the documentation by the weekend.
