FC Barcelona have announced their four-man captains for the upcoming 2023/2024 season, featuring Sergi Roberto, Marc Andre Ter Stagen, Ronald Araujo, and Frenkie De Jong.

Following Gerard Pique’s retirement, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba‘s departure this summer, the current Spanish La Liga champions have made it necessary to make some adjustments.

Over the decades that La Blaugrana has been an icon to Spanish and European football, FC Barcelona have had some of the very finest players in the world represent them, both as significant individuals and as team captains.

Therefore, Barcelona were left high and dry in terms of official leaders within the squad, and this situation required immediate attention.

Sergi Roberto, who had been the third captain, has been promoted to the top spot for the time being, while Ter Stegen, who had been brought in as the fourth captain last season due to a vacancy, has been named the new second captain for the forthcoming season.

FC Barcelona recently announced that in addition to the established captaincies of the Spanish and German internationals, the club have elected two new captains, number three and number four.

The new captains are center defender Ronald Araujo of Uruguay and midfield maestro Frenkie de Jong of the Netherlands.

There is a particular place for both players in the locker room and the hearts of Barcelona fans everywhere.

They see the 24-year-old defender and the 26-year-old ex-Ajax midfielder as two pillars of the Catalan revolution led by Xavi Hernandez, and he thinks they have the talent and respect among the players to lead the team by both example and merit.

Sergi Roberto (First), Marc Andre Ter Stegen (Second), Ronald Araujo (Third), and Frenkie de Jong (Fourth) are the four captains now expected to head the Catalan club next season.

Barcelona won La Liga last season, and under new management and with some talented new players on board, they could be poised to make an even bigger splash this time around.

During the club’s pre-season tour, the players held a poll to determine who would serve as captains for the upcoming season.

After Pique’s retirement last year, Ter Stegen took over as captain, and this year, De Jong and Araujo were chosen captains for the first time. All three have emerged as important members of the team and played significant roles in Barca’s league championship last year.

Araujo recently addressed the captaincy controversy, claiming he doesn’t need to wear the armband to be viewed as a leader on the Barcelona team.

Although Roberto has been named the team’s first captain, how often he will play at the helm in the upcoming season is still up in the air.

Ter Stegen may be the one to lead the club out next season, rather than the adaptable veteran.

Robert Lewandowski has been ignored by FC Barcelona

Barcelona have ignored Robert Lewandowski, the captain of Poland’s national team.

It’s fair to assume that the Polish forward is still relatively new to the team compared to the players who have been given the task.

Ousmane Dembele’s absence comes as another shock. However, the Frenchman has already said that he does not wish to serve as captain.
