Jurgen Klopp will make a surprising return to football management in September 2024, for the farewell match of Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski.

German giants Borussia Dortmund made this revelation via an hilarious post shared on their social media accounts.

Jurgen Klopp Involved In Farewell Match Of Lukasz Piszczek And Jakub Blaszczykowski

Klopp will take charge of Blaszczykowski’s team in the friendly game slated for September 7, 2024, with many ex-Dortmund stars expected to feature in the encounter.

Jurgen Klopp managed Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski during his spell as manager of the Black and Yellows, between 2008 and 2015.

In the video posted by Borussia Dortmund, the pair were shown chatting about their plans for the match.

Piszczek was seen indicating the need for a coach, and claimed he had an idea, before the video switched to Jurgen Klopp.

Lukasz Piszczek said: “We need a coach and I have an idea, we’ll call the retired coach.”

Subsequently, the video moved to Klopp picking up a video call while wearing black sunglasses and a white T-shirt.

The German tactician then said: “You finally have your farewell game. Oh my god. And you want to train before the game. Are you stupid?”

Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski burst out laughing before asking the ex-Mainz 05 boss which team he will handle.

Jurgen Klopp responded: “I couldn’t care less. I do it like I used to, I start thinking about it five minutes beforehand.

“Is the game sold out? I’d buy a ticket if I wasn’t coming anyway!”

Meanwhile, Lukasz Piszczek left Borussia Dortmund in 2021, having joined the club in 2010 and he called time on his career this summer.

Piszczek made 382 appearances for the Black and Yellows, scoring 19 goals and providing 64 assists across all competitions.

Jakub Blaszczykowski played for Dortmund between 2007 and 2016, and has been retired since 2023.

Blaszczykowski made 253 appearances for the club, scoring 32 goals and providing 52 assists in all competitions.

Klopp guided the Signal Iduna Park side to 2 league titles, alongside 2 DFB-Pokal and 2 DFL-Supercups.

The 57-year-old also led the German club to the UEFA Champions League final in 2013, albeit losing 2-1 to rivals Bayern Munich.

Jurgen Klopp moved to Liverpool in 2015, but in January 2024, he announced his exit from the English club at the end of the 2023/24 season, via an emotional video shared by the Anfield side.

The German manager cited a drop in his energy level as the reason for his decision, and it appears he could take a lengthy time off before returning to professional football management.

Klopp has been linked with a number of roles since leaving Liverpool, including links to the England national team and being offered the USA job, but has turned them down.

Has Jurgen Klopp Retired From Football Management?

There were rumors of him retiring from football management in July 2024, having hinted in a presser that he was done with coaching.

Speaking during the International Coaches’ Congress held in Wurzburg, Germany, in July 2024, Jurgen Klopp said:

“As of today, that’s it for me as a coach, I didn’t quit on a whim, but it was a general decision. I’ve also coached the best clubs in the world.

“Maybe we can talk about it again in a few months. I still want to work in football and help people with my experience and contacts. Let’s see what else there is for me.”

Jurgen Klopp won several trophies with the Reds during his spell at the club, including; 1 UEFA Champions League, 1 Premier League, 1 FA Cup and 1 UEFA Super Cup.
