Everton have rejected Manchester United’s bid for Jarrad Branthwaite again as Nottingham Forest sign Brazilian goalkeeper Carlos Miguel from Corinthians in a decisive summer transfer window move.
Miguel has reportedly penned a four-year deal at the Premier League club after moving to England for the first time in his career.
The journey to Forest for Carlos Miguel took off in Brazil, where he started his senior career with Internacional. He furthered his experience on loan at Santa Cruz and Boa Esporte before making a big move to Corinthians in 2021—where Carlos would really nail down his spot in the team, commanding 14 appearances during the 2024 season.
Speaking after signing for Forest, Carlos Miguel expressed his happiness to play for such a class club. “I am really happy and honoured to be able to represent this grand club,” he said. “This is a historic team, and my central focus lies in being important to this team. I want to help and leave a stamp here.”
The decision was made after seeking positive feedback from former Corinthians teammate Murillo, who made the move to Forest last year. “I asked him about the club and about the city,” Carlos Miguel explained. “He spoke well about both things, so this really excited me about this opportunity.”
Corinthians confirmed that Carlos Miguel would be leaving because Forest exercised a termination clause in his contract.
Branthwaite’s Saga Continues: Everton Turn Down Manchester United’s £45m Bid
Everton have rejected yet another bid for defender Jarrad Branthwaite from Manchester United. Reports say the latest offer was around £45 million, following rejection of United’s initial offer of £35 million. The two offers didn’t meet the price Everton had set for the 22-year-old England international.
United’s revised offer now involved additional payments contingent on certain performance targets. Despite United’s advances, Everton have refused to peck down their price for the talented left-sided central defender who was a big part of keeping the Merseyside club in the Premier League last term.
He made 35 Premier League appearances, earning 12 clean sheets. Also, he was splendid in defense with 63 tackles, 49 interceptions, and 149 clearances. His ability to quickly read the oppositions’ game plan and foil attacks was crucial in Everton’s late upbeat showing in the English top flight.
Offensively, the centre-half scored three times, proving his worth in set pieces. He remained disciplined with 8 yellow cards, 0 red cards, and conceded an average of 1.13 goals per 90 minutes.
Branthwaite made the resolute base of Everton’s defense with his contribution to both defense and attack. He has reportedly agreed personal terms with United but will wait for the Toffees to sanction the move.
