Lucas Digne was a former Everton player, the rule is you don’t celebrate against your former team and Everton fans felt offended when they saw Lucas Digne and Matty Cash celebration a goal at Goodison Park. Some fans threw objects from the stands that struck Lucas Digne and Matty Cash.

BBC pundit James McFadden, a former Everton player, blasted: “It’s disgusting to see things being thrown from the crowd, it’s a disgrace. It should never happen. There is no way a player should be hit by a bottle or objects were thrown from the crowd.”

Aston Villa writer Ashley Preece watched the incident unfold.

He wrote: “It was Digne’s corner for Buendia who glanced home brilliantly just before the break for his first goal since August.

“Villa celebrated in the corner in front of the Everton fans and the home fans chuck all sorts at the Villa players, including a Lucozade bottle at Digne. Cash also hurt.”

Former Republic of Ireland international and Spurs midfielder Andy Reid said: “It just needs to be a lifetime ban for anybody caught doing it (throwing objects on to the pitch). It’s dangerous.

“If it’s a coin you could cause real damage. Or a full bottle with a lid on it, which they are not supposed to have in there anyway, you could really hurt someone.

“It has to be a lifetime ban for me for anybody doing that – not being allowed into any football ground ever again.”

The FA is expected to find the offenders and ban them forever from attending football matches again. Everton organization is also expected to be fined.
