Erling Haaland of Manchester City has become the first player ever to bag the Premier League player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards in one season.
Haaland, who is 22 years old, has scored 36 goals this season which has seen him break the Premier League goalscoring record.
The Norwegian has bagged 52 goals in all competitions in what is his first season for Manchester City.
“I am honored to have become the first player to win both awards in the same season – thank you to everyone who voted for me,” the City ace posted.
Erling Haaland received the most combined votes from the Premier League panel and the public in his first season with City after joining from Dortmund.
The Norwegian’s contribution saw Manchester City win the Premier League title for the third time in a row ahead of rivals Arsenal.
“It has been an incredible first season in the Premier League and lifting the trophy last weekend in front of our fans at the Etihad was a very special moment for me,” Haaland added.
After which Haaland will lead the attack as The Citizyns will face Italian side Inter Milan in the Champions League final on June 10th.
Erling Haaland also thanked his teammates in the tweet he shared on his social media page after receiving the award.
He said:”These awards would not have been possible without my amazing team-mates, the manager, and all of the staff at the club who help me perform on the pitch.”
“Now we have two more finals to go and we want to finish the season strong,” he concluded.
How Good Is Erling Haaland?
Erling Braut Haaland is a Norwegian footballer who was born on 21 July 2000 and is a center-forward for Manchester City and the Norway national team.
The youngster is seen as one of the best players in the world and he is known for his speed, strength, positioning, and finishing inside the box.
The Norwegian is best known to break records and he has broken a couple of records in his playing career.
Haaland became the first teenager to score goals in five consecutive UEFA Champions League matches when he was still at Salzburg in 2019/20.
The Manchester City attacker was also the top scorer of the Champions League for the 2020/21 season.
Erling Haaland won the Golden Boy award in the year 2020, and in 2021 he was named the Bundesliga Player of the Season and also included in the FIFA FIFPro World11 in 2021 and 2022.
He has continued to break records since he joined Premier League side City from Dortmund for a transfer fee of €60 million (£51.2 million).
The records he has broken in the Premier League include; most goals scored in a season, the quickest individual to score two, three and four hat-tricks, and the first player in the league’s history to score hat-tricks in three consecutive home games.
The question now is will the youngster continue beyond this season and break more records or will he just be a season wonder?
