Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has rated Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski above Paris Saint Germain forward Lionel Messi.

In the ranking of his best players in 2021, the 21-year-old Norwegian striker named Robert Lewandowski as the best player in 2021. He named Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema as the second-best player in the world in 2021.

Erling Haaland who was regarded as one of the best players in 2021 said Lionel Messi could jointly occupy the second spot or the third spot on his list.

The highly sought-after striker left out Messi’s career rival Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United in his top three best players in 2021 list.

Recall that Messi beat Robert Lewandowski to the 2021 Ballon d’Or even though many felt he deserved the award more than the 34-year-old Argentine forward.

On the other hand, the 33-year-old Polish striker beat Lionel Messi to the 2021 FIFA Best Men’s player of the year. Lewandowski joined Ronaldo as the only two players to ever win the award twice in their football career.

As for Erling Haaland who has scored a whopping 80 goals in 79 games in all competitions in the last two years, he managed to make it into the 2021 FIFPRO World eleven.

When asked to name his best players for 2021 during an interview with Sky Sports, Erling Haaland said: “That’s a good question but I think you would have to say Lewandowski number one, then you have, for me, Benzema has also been amazing, but Messi has also been outstanding – so Benzema and Messi in shared second and third place.”

Haaland has scored 23 goals and provided 6 assists in 20 games in all competitions so far this season. Despite his prolific form, he said he still wants to improve a lot about his skills.

“I think I can improve on everything”, the Norwegian striker said. “If you say I am good at finishing, I can improve my finishing a lot”, said Haaland in a bold statement that will strike fear into defenders throughout the game.

“If I should improve one thing, it would be to not get injured, because if I am not injured I will play a lot more games and I will deliver even better. If you were to ask what my goals are for 2022, it is to not be injured, and the goals for the rest of my career are not to be injured. That’s the main thing”.

Erling Haaland’s contract with Borussia Dortmund will expire on June 30, 2024, but there is a release clause in his contract that permits him to leave the club for another club next summer.

Recently, Haaland said Dortmund are pressuring him to decide on his future amid interest from top clubs across Europe. The statement forced the club to release a statement stressing that Haaland is not under pressure to decide whether he would stay at Dortmund beyond next summer or not.

In his reaction to Dortmund’s statement, Haaland who is currently recovering from Muscular problems said: “I don’t really want to say too much about it, but I felt it was time for me to say something.

“A lot of others were speaking – so that was it. Now, I don’t want to say too much. I said what I said, and now we move on.”
