Erling Haaland is not slowing down on his goal-scoring heroics in the Premier League. The Norwegian attacking sensation has continued on his stellar performances for Manchester City in his third season for the club.
He was on the score sheet as City left it late to draw Arsenal and salvage a Premier League point at Etihad on Sunday, September 22, 2024.
The former Borussia Dortmund forward opened the scoring in the 9th minute, beating Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya with a needle-like low shot into the bottom-right corner to give City the lead.
Arsenal fought back to equalize and complete a turnaround in the first half, thanks to goals from defensive duo Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Magalhaes.
The Gunners nearly sealed the miracle before substitute John Stones scored in the last stretch of the game to peg back the Londoners to a 2-2 draw.
Erling Haaland breaks Premier League record with his goal against Arsenal
Erling Haaland stole the spotlights again in the game against Arsenal with his opening goal. Premier League stats showed the 24-year-old is now the fastest Premier League player to score 10 goals in the England top flight.
Haaland has now scored ten Premier League goals in just five matches this season. This means the prolific forward has now scored at least two goals per game for Man City this campaign.
He is closely followed by former Newcastle United forward Michael Quinn, who scored ten Premier League goals for the Magpies in the 1992-93 season in six matches.
Notably, Haaland matched Michael Quinn’s feat on his debut season with Manchester City in the 2022-23 campaign after he netted ten goals as well in six Premier League matches. This season, the Norway international has taken a further step to break the record and raise the bar.
Apart from Haaland and Michael Quinn, no other Premier League player has reached a 10-goal tally in less than nine games. The likes of Mohammed Salah of Liverpool, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Papiss Cisse, Edin Dzeko, Luis Suarez, Les Ferdinand, and Alan Shearer all scored their first 10 goals in 9 games.
Erling Haaland’s terrific performances for Man City this season
Erling Haaland got off to a brilliant start with Manchester City this season. He scored the opening goal in City’s opening 2-0 Premier League win over Chelsea on August 18, 2024.
He scored a hat-trick in the next game against Ipswich Town, helping the team to a 4-1 victory on August 24, 2024.
Again, he recorded a second consecutive hat-trick in a 3-1 mauling of West Ham United on August 31, 2024.
On September 14, the prolific forward returned from the international break with another five-star performance, leading City’s 2-1 comeback win over Brentford with his brace.
This season, Haaland has only failed to score in City’s 2024-25 UEFA Champions League opener against Inter Milan on September 18, 2024. The goal against Arsenal means the striker has now scored in his five consecutive Premier League games, tallying an average of two goals per game.
Erling Haaland matches Cristiano Ronaldo’s 100th goal record
Haaland also reached another milestone in the Arsenal match as he became the 19th Manchester City player to score 100 goals for the club. Also, he matched Cristiano Ronaldo’s exact record of 100 goals in 105 matches for a new club.
With Manchester City trading tackles with Watford in EFL Cup third round clash on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the Norwegian will hope to continue with his impressive outings for the club.
