    Erling Haaland has been named as the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year after an outstanding season with Manchester City.

    The former Dortmund striker received 82% of the FWA vote, ahead of Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

    Haaland so far this season has contributed a massive goals in all competitions this season as Manchester City are set to secure a historic treble.

    The 22-year-old has only appeared 47 times for the Citizens and his goal against West Ham earlier this month pushed him to 35 goals in the season, which earned him a record in the Premier League goalscoring chart.

    The record is one of the many he has broken this season as he aims at helping Man City to a historic treble in the final few weeks of the season.

    Pep Guardiola’s team is currently top dogs in the Premier League, a point ahead of Arsenal with a game in hand with four games remaining.

    Manchester City will welcome Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium next week for the Champions League semi-final with the score locked at 1-1 after the first leg.

    If they win at Etihad and in the Champions League final on June 10, they could complete the treble with victory in the FA Cup final on June 3 against rivals Manchester United.

    Erling Haaland will join Chelsea’s Women’s star Sam Kerr to receive the award at the FWA Footballer of the Year 75th anniversary dinner in London on May 25.

    Erling Braut Haaland is a Norwegian footballer who was born on 21 July 2000 and plays as a striker for Manchester City and the Norway national team.

    Haaland is considered one of the best players in the world. He is known for his speed, strength, positioning, and finishing inside the box.

    The Norwegian holds the record for the most goals scored by a player in a single Premier League season, with 35 goals.

    Haaland is known to break several records and he has broken various records during his career. 

    With Salzburg in the 2019/20 season, Haaland became the first teenager to score goals in five consecutive UEFA Champions League matches.

    The Manchester City man was also the top scorer of the Champions League for the 2020/21 season.

    Haaland won the Golden Boy award in the year 2020, and in 2021 he was named the Bundesliga Player of the Season and also included in the FIFA FIFPro World11 in 2021 and 2022.

    He has continued to break records since he joined the club from Dortmund for a transfer fee of €60 million (£51.2 million).

    The records he has broken in the Premier League include; most goals scored in a season, the quickest individual to score two, three and four hat-tricks, and the first player in the league’s history to score hat-tricks in three consecutive home games.

    The record breaker is not just doing wonders at the club level, he has been superb at the international level.

    Erling Haaland has represented Norway at various youth levels and in 2019 he scored a record nine goals in a single match and won FIFA Under-20 World Cup Golden boot.
