Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund is arguably the hottest 20-year-old striker in Europe and it is not a surprise that two of the biggest football clubs in the world – Real Madrid and FC Barcelona want to sign him.
The latest reports confirmed that the representatives of the 20-year-old footballer were in FC Barcelona to discuss with the management of the club over a potential move from Borussia Dortmund to the Spanish giants.
It was reported that Mino Raiola, the agent of Erling Haaland alongside the father of the 20-year-old Norwegian footballer met with the newly elected president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, to discuss the transfer deal of the footballer.
Reports claimed that Barca’s president sent escorts to pick the representatives of the footballer from the airport to the headquarters of the club in Catalonia where they were received by the club’s president.
After the meeting between the president of FC Barcelona and the representatives of Erling Haaland, agent Mino Raiola and the footballer’s father reportedly traveled to Madrid to have a meeting with the representatives of Real Madrid.
If this is anything to go by, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona would be heading into a battle that might be very financially intensive. The club that can pay the highest amount would be the club that might get the player either this summer or next summer.
Besides the two Spanish clubs, Manchester City and Chelsea are said to be very interested in the services of Erling Haaland. The club that seemed closest to securing the signature of the 20-year-old striker is Chelsea.
Recall that recently, reports made the rounds that Chelsea could add the club’s new striker Timo Werner to a deal that would see Erling Haaland join the Premier League side this summer. However, there is no confirmation about such a report.
Why does everyone want Erling Haaland?
As stated earlier, Erling Haaland is arguably the hottest 20-year-old striker in Europe. The Norway international joined Borussia Dortmund on January 1, 2020, for just €20 million.
When he signed the transfer deal with Borussia Dortmund, the German Bundesliga club inserted the clause which would allow him to join any club of his choice in 2022 provided that such a club pays his release clause which is 75 million euros.
However, any club that wants to sign him before the summer of 2022 would have to pay any amount the club decides to place on his head. According to reports, Borussia Dortmund could sell him between 150 to 200 million euros this summer. His contract with the German club would expire in January 2024.
In over a year at the club, Erling Haaland has scored 49 goals and provided 11 assists in 49 games in all competitions, stats that won him the Golden Globe award and will never stop top clubs from seeking his signature.
