Erling Haaland of Manchester City was reportedly caught on camera using a phone while driving close to Manchester City Stadium.
The goal machine was seen distracted by his device on his lap while plying the carriageway in the New Islington neighborhood of Manchester.
He appeared to be pressing the phone while driving in his £300,000 Rolls Royce Cullinan as images suggest.
Reports have it that this happened earlier in March after he scored five goals against RB Leipzig in the Champions League to give City a lifeline.
A passerby criticized the City striker’s behavior and warned that using phone while driving could have negative effected on both him and commuters.
The passerby said: “Erling has hardly put a foot wrong since he moved to City.”
“But he needs to pay more attention to the road when he’s driving and needs to brush up on the law when he’s driving.”
“It’s a silly mistake but could be a dangerous one for him and for other road users.”
“The last thing City fans want is for him to have a bump which rules him out of a game.”
Drivers in the United Kingdom are panelized and fined £200 if they are discovered to be operating their phone while driving.
Additionally, it is also prohibited for drivers to use electronic devices while driving in Norway – where Haaland hails from.
Former transport secretary, Grant Shapps, stifled regulations governing drivers’ use of cell phones and promised to have a “zero-tolerance” approach to such incidence.
“I will do everything in my power to keep road users safe, which is why I am taking a zero-tolerance approach to those who decide to risk lives by using their phone behind the wheel,” he affirmed.
Figures showed that 17 people died and 499 were injured in crashes with one driver using a device. The RAC confirmed that a third of drivers in 2020 said that other drivers using mobile phones were their greatest worry on the road.
This might affect him featuring in the rival match between Manchester City and Liverpool on Saturday, 1st of April 2023.
