Erling Haaland tendered an apology to ”perfect bothers and sisters” after he wrongly spelled the venue for Manchester City’s next pre-season match.

After Manchester City suffered a shock defeat to AC Milan at the Yankee Stadium, Erling Haaland took to his social media handle to post footage of himself and his teammate Jack Grealish. On the footage, he wrote, “Ornaldo next.”

The Norwegian footballer obviously made a mistake in the caption. He had apparently wanted to write ‘Orlando,’ where Manchester City will play their next match. As expected, football fans were quick to twig the error and reacted to the post.

A fan said, “This looks like the work of a robot. But his guy can be funny sometimes.”

Another fan said, “Haaland must have intentionally gotten this spelling wrong for attention.”

Another said ”How can he get this spelling wrong? Manchester City deadlock in the friendlies has really affected him.”

Apparently reacting to the comments, Haaland posted another footage with a sarcastic apology.

In the second post, he wrote the correct spelling of Orlando and then went on to describe his critics as “perfect brothers and sisters” in a ”perfect world.”

”Orlando…. Not even allowed to write something wrong now in this perfect world sorry to all the brothers and sisters out there,” he wrote.

Haaland’s banter with football fans was largely hilarious but it was enough to dissuade attention from Manchester City’s difficult pre-season campaign so far.

Manchester City 2024 pre-season results and fixtures

Manchester City opened their 2024 pre-season campaign with a shock defeat to Brendan Rodgers’ Scottish giants Celtic on July 24, 2024, at the Kenan Memorial Stadium.

Kuhn opened the scoring for Celtic in the 13th minute but Oscar Bobb equalised for City 20 minutes later.

Three minutes after Bobb’s equaliser, Kuhn scored again to restore Celtic’s lead. Shockingly, Furuhashi extended the lead for Celtic with a 44th-minute goal but City halved the deficit two minutes later through Perrone. A five-goal thriller first half saw Celtic head to the break with an unlikely 3-2 lead.

Haaland scored 12 minutes into the second half to make it 3-3 but a resilient Celtic side ensured they ran out with a 4-3 victory, thanks to Palma’s winning goal eight minutes after the hour-mark.

Away from the loss at Kenan Memorial Stadium, Manchester City were expected to return to winning ways in their next match but it ended in another shock defeat. They lost to AC Milan at the Yankee Stadium in a five-goal thriller.

A first-half brace from Colombo and a late strike by Nasti canceled out Erling Haaland and McAtee’s goals for Manchester City to hand AC Milan a 3-2 victory.

Erling Haaland’s pre-season performance and prospects for the 2024-25 season

While Manchester City have come out with defeats in both pre-season friendlies, Haaland has proved his class, scoring in both games. Since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, he has scored an impressive 90 goals in 98 appearances in all competitions.

Last season, the Norwegian attacking sensation led the charge, scoring 27 goals with 5 assists in 31 matches as Manchester City won their seventh Premier League title. He is expected to play a crucial role as the Premier League champions prepare for the 2024-25 season.

Meanwhile, the former RB Salzburg forward will be called to action again on Wednesday, July 31 in City’s next pre-season match against Barcelona. He will also feature in the final fixture against Chelsea on Saturday, August 3.

Will Erling Haaland struggle next season?

Haaland’s pre-season run has always been a world away from his form in competitive games for City. Despite the club’s deadlock in the two friendlies, the prolific forward is still top of his game.

However, City’s next two matches will offer enough ground to assess his prospects ahead of the next campaign. He has proven his mettle in the past two games.
