Erik ten Hag has dropped the clearest indication that Mason Greenwood may continue his stay at Manchester United.
Mason Greenwood was accused of attempted rape and assault, but the case was dropped in February 2023.
Greenwood had not played since the case started and had also not played for United 16 months after the Red Devils started their own investigations.
What Did Erik Ten Hag Say?
Erik Ten Hag recently hinted that Mason Greenwood could still have a future at Manchester United as he has plan for the youngster.
In his interview with TIMES, Ten hag was asked if he wanted another striker to reduce the pressure on United top scorer Marcus Rashford.
Then the conversation moved to Mason Greenwood who scored 36 goals in 130 appearances for the Red Devils.
Erik ten Hag said: “[He] showed in the past that he is capable of doing that.”
He also made it clear that the decision to get Greenwood back in the team does not solely lie on him.
Ten Hag went ahead to explain what was up front for him, saying: “What we need besides Marcus Rashford is one extra player with scoring abilities whether it’s coming out of our own squad or we have to sign one.”
Speaking about Rashford’s transformation, he added: “What I have done? He’s a good football player, incredibly good and his finishing attributes are high.”
“So, first of all, I make a culture where he can perform. Then I get him motivated and then construct a way of play where he can do it.”
“And fitness, as well, don’t forget that part. When those four aspects are there Marcus Rashford will score.”
“He can play as a center forward, can play from the left, can play from the right. When you see his stats, he is scoring everywhere but he feels more comfortable as a centre forward or from the left,” Erik ten Hag concluded.
What Happened To Mason Greenwood?
Mason Greenwood, 21, was arrested in January 2022 amid allegations surrounding sexual assault and attempted rape.
The Englishman was later charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault involving actual bodily harm.
His then girlfriend Harriet Robson took to her Instagram and posted evidence of this allegations.
However, in February 2023, charges of attempted rape and assault were dropped against the Manchester United footballer.
Greenwood in a statement said that he was “relieved” and thanked his family and friends for supporting him.
The Crown Prosecution Service said the charges were halted after key witnesses withdrew their involvement and “new material came to light”.
A statement that was released on Greenwood’s behald read: “I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support.”
“There will be no further comment at this time.”
