As they attempt to kick-start a new era, the Dutchman was seen leaving the club’s offices in Mayfair on Thursday night with his new assistants, former Newcastle and Derby boss Steve McClaren and Mitchell van der Gaag.

Ten Hag was photographed by the press in his own automobile, while McClaren and Van der Gaag were driven in a separate vehicle.

After United’s final game of the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday, which will be their final encounter under interim coach Ralf Rangnick, Ten Hag will formally take over on Monday.

Erik Ten Hag will be in the stands at Selhurst Park for the first time, keeping an eye on his new players.

When he formally takes over on Monday, the Dutchman will meet with the players for the first time but will have no direct input in the game against Crystal Palace out of respect for interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

On Wednesday afternoon, Ten Hag and Van der Gaag arrived in the capital by private plane. Before they arrived in London, the couple worked in Holland.

McClaren worked with Ten Hag during the Englishman’s first season at FC Twente in 2008-2009, with the Dutchman as his assistant, and he is familiar with United, having worked as an assistant under Sir Alex Ferguson in 1999.

He wants McClaren to join his backroom staff, however United is yet to make a formal announcement about his return.

Ten Hag stated he would be ‘flicking the switch’ and focussing on United after leading Ajax to the Eredivisie title last week. He had already met with United’s director of football John Murtough in Amsterdam.

Ten Hag has a busy summer ahead of him as he attempts to transform United into a Premier League title contender, with Sportsmail reporting that ten players might depart the club as part of the coach’s overhaul.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have begun conversations with Dean Henderson’s representative, and he might be one of the first players to leave. In January, the Magpies attempted to sign him but were turned down due to his £40 million price tag.

The club will also consider offers for right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who joined from Crystal Palace for £50 million three years ago, while Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, and Juan Mata will all leave on a free transfer this summer.

United are also willing to sell centre-backs Eric Bailly and Phil Jones, while Harry Maguire’s future could be jeopardized if Ten Hag strengthens his position by returning to Ajax in exchange for Jurrien Timber or Lisandro Martinez.
