Kyle Walker is a major doubt for England World Cup campaign after undergoing surgery to treat a groin injury. The England and Manchester City star suffered a groin injury in the 188th Manchester Derby.
Gareth Southgate may have to restrategize and shop for replacements for Manchester City star Kyle Walker after the latest development concerning the footballer’s injury situation.
Manchester City have come out to confirm that Walker has successfully undergone a surgical operation on the groin injury he sustained during the Manchester Derby last weekend.
A club statement released by the Etihad club revealed that the surgical operation was successful, but more details of the prognosis will be revealed in due course.
“Walker has undergone surgery after suffering a groin injury to his left leg during the first half of our 6-3 win over Manchester United on Sunday”, the statement read.
“The surgery was successful and a more detailed prognosis will be provided in due course.
“Everyone at Manchester City wishes Kyle a speedy recovery.”
The 32-year-old former Sheffield United and Premier League right-back also confirmed the development by sharing a picture of of himself in the hospital after the operation.
Walker wrote;
“As players we have to appreciate injuries are part and parcel of the game we love.
“My operation on Tuesday was a success and now I can concentrate on my rehab and getting back to full fitness.”
“I will be supporting my team mates every day in any way I can. Once again thank you for all your kind messages.”
Also doubting Kyle Walker’s World Cup hopes is Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola who admitted that he does not know when Kyle Walker will return from injury.
“It’s something abdominal, and he will be a while out”, Guardiola confirmed recently.
“I don’t know (how long). I cannot say anything else. We have to speak to the doctors. Hopefully he can get back like Kalvin (Phillips).
“I know how important the World Cup is for the players but honestly I don’t know right now.”
Walker did not feature for Manchester City in their 5-0 win over Copenhagen and is expected to miss more matches.
He now has to race against time to feature in the 2022 World Cup as things stand.
This will be a major concern for Gareth Southgate, who prefers the Manchester City star as his first choice right back.
