Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has reacted to the signing of Erling Haaland by Manchester City. The 2022-23 season will likely have a lot of goals as the top clubs are strengthening their squads with quality goal scorers who can be a nightmare for any goalkeeper.
Man City has already gotten one of the best strikers in the world with the signing of Erling Haaland, Tottenham Hotspur has Harry Kane while Liverpool signed Darwin Nunez this summer. These players and more will be a threat to goalkeepers next season but Chelsea’s goalkeeper is not afraid of what’s coming.
The Senegalese is confident that he will be ready to face any striker and prove himself worthy. The Blues will meet Man City for the first time next season in January 2023 which is after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Edouard Mendy will be part of the Senegal national team traveling for the World Cup competition.
However, Erling Haaland won’t be participating in the World Cup because Norway did not qualify. This means that the prolific striker will still be fresh when the English Premier League resumes after the World Cup break. But Mendy is not concerned about that as he claims to be prepared to face him and won’t give him special attention when they meet in January.
“I study. I study a lot”, the goalkeeper said.
“It’s not about one striker or one team – we just have to focus on every striker, every team we play to win. It’s not because it’s Haaland.
“I look at Haaland like I look at, say, Benteke at Palace – it’s not that different between Crystal Palace and City. You have to be focused because he is a striker and he can score. We have our methods and I don’t need to say what they are. But I study a lot. A lot.”

Also, Edouard Mendy reacted to the departure of his fellow countryman Sadio Mane from Liverpool. Mane made a surprising move to Bayern Munich in a €32 million (£27m/$34m), with a further €6m (£5m/$6m) transfer fee this summer.
The Senegal captain has always been a great addition to the Liverpool team but decided to leave. Mendy who has a close relationship with Sadio Mane said that his departure is a big loss to the English Premier League.
The two players helped Senegal to win their first African Cup of Nations trophy this year and they already have UEFA Champions League medals at their different clubs.
Mendy will be hoping to help Chelsea challenge for titles next season after they finished last season without a trophy. The goalkeeper had an amazing first season with the Blues as he won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and best goalkeeper of the year.
