Edinson Cavani Has Now Scored in Four of Europe’s Top Five Leagues

    Former Manchester United star Edinson Cavani has become the fifth South American footballer to score in four of the top five European league tournaments.

    The 35-year-old Uruguayan striker Cavani registered his first goal for Valencia in a 2-2 La Liga draw against Elche on Saturday, October 15.

    The visitors threw the first punch after Pere Milla converted a penalty that was awarded to Elche in the 29th minute of the first half.

    The former United striker scored a 41st-minute equalizer via a penalty, before putting Valencia into a 2-1 lead followed by a stoppage-time header in the first half of the La Liga match at Mestalla stadium.

    Valencia’s 2-1 lead didn’t last long before the host was jabbed back by Pere Milla’s second goal in the 65th minute of the game.

    Whereas, Edinson Cavani’s stunning goals for Valencia have made the ex-United star the fifth South American player in the 21st century to score in four out of five of Europe’s top leagues followed by Alexis Sanchez, James Rodríguez, Philippe Coutinho, and Angel Di Maria.

    The 35-year-old Uruguayan striker, Edinson Cavani has scored in Serie A while he was at Palermo and Napoli. He netted in Ligue 1 for Paris Saint-Germain, where he was the club’s highest goal scorer, and in the English Premier League for Manchester United.

    The two goals Cavani scored against Elche came in his fourth match for Valencia after the Uruguayan joined the club from Manchester United this year in August 29.

    Cavani’s racial statement and penalty

    The former United striker Cavani was banned for three matches by the English Football Association for using a racial phrase on his Instagram post.

    Cavani reposted a message to a friend after he netted twice for United in the 3-2 victory over Southampton on November 29, 2020.

    The Uruguayan wrote in Spanish, “gracias, negrito”, which can be interpreted as racist in the United Kingdom.

    However, he quickly deleted the post after he was made aware of the meaning, and apologized the next day saying he “completely opposed to racism”.

    Whereas, the Football Association charged the United striker with “misconduct for a breach of FA Rule E3” following his social media racial post and he was banned for three games with a fine of 100000 pounds ($136590).

    Why is Cavani not in FIFA 21?

    Edinson Cavani was not a Manchester United player in FIFA 21 yet as the Uruguayan striker was still a free agent when the FIFA 21 was first released.

    Cavani was without a club after leaving PSG when his contract expired in August 2020. His transfer to Manchester United was later confirmed as being successful on the 5th of October, 2020 after FIFA 21 was already launched.
