Chelsea legend Eden Hazard has revealed why he struggled with niggling injury issues at Real Madrid.
The Belgian was frequently sidelined, playing a bit-role at the club before finally being freezed out. Hazard finally called time on his beleaguered but still legendary career a year before his contract expired.
His retirement did not come as a surprise after his Real Madrid misfortunes and persistent injury issues. However, it was thought he will run out the last lap of his deal with the Los Blancos.
Meanwhile, there were reports linking him a to a move to Saudi Arabia and a possible return to a homebased club in Belgium.
While Hazard wore the outlook of a flop frequently courting rejection from some Real Madrid fans, he was still fighting deep to return to elite level performance but injury kept derailing his efforts.
In a quote shared by Get Real Madrid News, Hazard disclosed to his former Chelsea teammate Mikel Obi that his reccuring injury issues was due to his determined effort to do his best for Real Madrid.
According to him, he had always put up an intense effort in training to live up to expectations only to crashed to the sidelines with frequent injuries.
“I was talking to him the other day, and he said to me, ‘Mikel, it’s not like I was not trying.’
“He said, ‘When I went to Madrid, I looked at myself and was like okay, let me try, let me give it a go, let me put some effort in.’ But then I started getting injuries, my body couldn’t take it.”

Hazard grappled with incessant and unceasing injuries that finally ended his career. He missed weeks and months of action for the club. According to Transfermarkt, Hazard missed 500 days while at Real Madrid and only made 78 appearances for the club throughout his four-year stint.
With a year left on his contract, the former Chelsea star reached agreement to end his contract with the club.
Saudi clubs lined up transfer move for Hazard as he braced for Real Madrid exit but it apparent the former Ajax midfielder wasn’t ready to take up a fresh challenge after the four-year nightmare at Santiago Bernabeu.
