Less than two weeks after Arsenal announced that they have released Eddie Nketiah, the club and the 23-year-old English striker have extended their relationship.

Initially, Eddie Nketiah’s contract was expected to expire on June 30, 2022. In line with the provisions of the Premier League, the club had already announced his exit, while adding that negotiations for a contract extension were still ongoing.

The negotiations have yielded fruit as Nketiah signed a long-term contract with the North London club on June 18, 2022, which will keep him at the Premier League side until June 30, 2027.

This means that the Ghanaian-born English striker is expected to spend the next five years at the Emirates Stadium as he continues to work with coach Mikel Arteta who has been trying to return Arsenal to Champions League football since 2019.

Eddie Nketiah started his football career at Arsenal academy when he was just 14-year-old. From training at Hale End as an academy player, Nketiah moved to London Colney as an Arsenal’s senior team player on January 1, 2019.

Before he was promoted to Arsenal’s senior team permanently, he had made his senior team debut in 2017. Since then, the former England youth international made 91 appearances in which he scored 23 goals and provided 2 assists.

Nketiah has helped Arsenal to win one Community Shield in 2021, and one FA Cup in 2020. He is expected to lead Arsenal’s attack in the coming 2022-2023 season.

The former England’s youth international will wear shirt number 14 which was formerly worn by the legendary Thierry Henry. Before he renewed his contract, Nketiah was wearing shirt number 30.

After Eddie Nketiah signed a long-term contract with Arsenal which the club announced on Saturday, June 18, 2022, Arsenal’s coach Mikel Arteta said the 23-year-old striker represents what the team is all about.

“I’m delighted Eddie is staying with us”, Arteta said. “He represents what we are all about and all the values of the club. We are very happy that he has extended his contract and now we have to get to work and continue to develop the great talent and person that we have in him.”

While Arsenal’s technical director Edu, added: “The foundations of this squad are built on young talent and in particular those who have come through our Academy system. Eddie was released by another club as a young man but has always shown he has the attitude as well as the ability to become a top player. The fact he’s signed a new contract is an important part of our squad planning for next season and we’re all delighted.”
