The manager of West Ham United, David Moyes believes that his club’s defensive midfielder, Declan Rice, should worth more than £100 million in the transfer market.

The 22-year-old English football star is said to be one of the most sought-after football stars in the Premier League. But no club has been able to make an official bid for the midfielder.

So far this season, David Moyes has ensured that he used the football star in all the Premier League games West Ham United played. The youngster has featured in the 26 league games of the team in which he scored a goal and provided an assist. He has played a total number of 29 games in all competitions so far this season.

In a pre-match press conference ahead of West Ham United Premier League game against Leeds United scheduled for today, March 8, 2021, David Moyes confirmed that the owners of the club have placed about £100million price tag on Declan Rice which he, as the coach of the club, does not agree with.

“I don’t agree with the owners that Declan Rice is a £100m footballer. Far, far more than £100m. Far, far more”, David Moyes said.

“I look at the players who have joined some clubs from overseas and come in and nowhere near had the impact Declan Rice would have.

“I certainly wouldn’t put a price on it. You can decide which figure you want to put on it but I wouldn’t be sanctioning anything like that, that’s for sure.”

Declan Rice joined West Ham United’s youth system from Chelsea’s youth system on July 1, 2013. He continued his development at the club until July 1, 2017, when he was promoted to the club’s senior team. Since he joined the club’s senior team, he has made a total number of 138 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing 5 assists.

This season, Declan Rice has helped West Ham United to record just 7 defeats, draw 6 games, and win 13 matches. This form has helped West Ham United to remain 7th on the league table with 45 points in 26 games, two points away from 4th placed Chelsea.

This means that if West Ham win over Leeds United later today, at 21:00, West Ham will overtake Chelsea on the league table.

Meanwhile, Declan Rice is seen as one of the youngsters that want to have a taste of playing in European clubs competitions, hence he has reportedly urged the club to qualify for a Champions League spot. But coach Moyes believes that Rice whose contract with the Club will expire in June 2024, would stay with West Ham no matter what happened at the end of this season

Moyes said: “Do we need the Champions League to keep Declan? No, because Declan is under contract first and foremost, so he can’t go anywhere no matter what, and I keep saying it and I hope people know that when I say something, I mean it.

“We’ve not had an offer for Declan Rice and I hope we don’t get one. And you’ve got an idea now of where we’d need to be if it was even going to be considered, certainly by me.

“If we could finish in Europe, in some sort of European position, I think it would progress. And that would be progress for Declan Rice as well because he’s been at West Ham while they’ve been bobbing around the bottom, so this is new for Declan as well.

“Declan seems very settled and in fact, he is captaining West Ham, he plays for England, and I want to keep Declan thinking that his ambitions can be achieved here at West Ham and I will have to keep pushing that and keep pushing that with the owners as well.

“For me, I have watched the prices of some players who have gone to clubs recently and they could not lace Declan Rice’s boots.”
