Manchester United goalkeeper, Dean Henderson has left the Premier League club again since he could not outshine the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, David de Gea. He will spend the 2022-2023 season on loan at the newly-promoted club, Nottingham Forest.

Recall that Dean Henderson spent the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons on loan at Sheffield United where he made 86 appearances, conceding 78 goals and keeping 35 clean sheets. After the two seasons loan deal, the 25-year-old English goalkeeper decided to return to Manchester United ahead of the 2020-2021 season even though Sheffield United tried to retain him.

Henderson returned to United with the attention of replacing De Gea but his effort was not enough to do that for two straight seasons. The English goalkeeper was often used in cup games and as a backup to the Spanish goalkeeper.

In the last two seasons under the shadow of De Gea, Dean Henderson managed to make 29 appearances in which he conceded 25 goals and kept 13 clean sheets. He has not played a Premier League game for Manchester United since May 2021.

Hence, he had to move to a club where he could play more often and probably stand a chance of following the England national team to Qatar in November for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The England international who has played once for the Three Lions since he made his debut on November 12, 2020, is expected to help Nottingham Forest remain in the Premier League beyond next season.

After he sealed his season-long move to Nottingham Forest, the manager of the side, Steve Cooper said: “He’s hungry for more opportunities to play.

“He’s played multiple times in the Premier League but has also experienced the Champions League and international football.

“Again, Dean is someone who has attracted a lot of interest from other clubs and we’re delighted that he has chosen Nottingham Forest for our return to the Premier League.”

Futballnews gathered that the English goalkeeper is expected to return to Manchester United after the 2022-2023 season as there was no option to buy within the loan agreement. Also, Nottingham Forest will cater for the wages of the English goalkeeper throughout the 2022-2023 season.

Henderson is expected to compete with Brice Samba, a 28-year-old goalkeeper who has been Forest’s number one for the past three seasons. Samba’s contract with the Premier League club will expire on June 30, 2023, and reports in England claimed that negotiations for an extension have stopped abruptly.

As it stands, Dean Henderson is the second major signing of the newly-promoted Premier League club. Weeks before they announced their loan deal with the English goalkeeper, Forest had signed Nigeria forward Taiwo Awoniyi from German Bundesliga club Union Berlin.

Forest are also trying to grab the signature of French defender Giulian Biancone. The 22-year-old defender who currently plays for Ligue 1 side Troyes could join Forest on a permanent deal this summer.

Note that Nottingham Forest will commence their 2022-2023 Premier League campaign away against Newcastle United on August 6, 2022. After that, they will host West Ham United at City Ground on August 13, 2022.
