The manager of West Ham United, David Moyes could not but show sympathy for Jesse Lingard who has been struggling to play regularly at Manchester United.

Lingard has been finding it difficult to play regularly at Manchester United for over two seasons. Due to his failure to play regularly, he went on loan to West Ham United in January last year.

The 28-year-old English midfielder spent the second part of the 2020-2021 season at the club and performed excellently well in the last 6 months of the season. His effort helped West Ham to finish 6th on the league table.

Recalled that Lingard played 16 Premier League games under David Moyes and scored 9 goals which convinced West Ham United to attempt to offer him a permanent deal.

To the surprise of many, the out of favor England international decided to return to Manchester United ahead of the 2021-2022 season with the hope that he would play regularly.

Unfortunately for him, Manchester United made some recruitment including Cristiano Ronaldo last summer which reduced his chances of playing regularly.

Despite not playing regularly for Manchester United, the Premier League club have been trying to renew his contract but the Englishman has been dragging the process while he continues to consider his options.

Ahead of West Ham United Premier League game against Chelsea scheduled to kick off at 13:30 later today, December 4, coach David Moyes described his stay at the club as a very good spell.

“I can’t really talk about him because he’s a Manchester United player and it’s not for me to talk,” said Moyes.

“But he was really good for us. Jesse knows what we all think of him here. My disappointment for Jesse would be, I think he’s such a talented football player and he’s not playing.

“He played a big part in our second half of last season. But you’d have to give credit to the players here, they’ve moved on without Jesse.

“People might have thought Jesse made a difference here. But the players have moved on and stepped to another level themselves. But I’ve got to say, Jesse was a big part of that.”

Lingard’s contract with Manchester United will expire on June 30, 2022. At the time of publishing this report, the Englishman was still considering his next move.

On the other hand, West Ham United are having a good time in the league. They are currently sitting on the 4th spot with 24 points in 14 games. They need to beat first-placed Chelsea later today to maintain their spot.
