Sergio Ramos is David Beckham’s target for Inter Miami

David Beckham, the founder and co-Chief Executive Officer of a Major League Soccer club, Inter Miami, is reportedly monitoring Real Madrid’s captain Sergio Ramos to sign him to the MLS Club.

Sergio Ramos is currently in the final year of his contract with the Spanish La Liga side and talks to extend his contract with the club is still ongoing. If Real Madrid fail to reach an agreement with the Spain international before June 30, 2021, David Beckham will step in to drag the Spaniard to Miami.

The possibility of Beckham making the 34-year-old center-back Inter Miami’s third major signing from Europe after successfully signing 32-year-old Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuaín from Juventus and 33-year-old French midfielder Blaise Matuidi from Juventus is very slim.

Unlike David Beckham‘s initial major signings, Sergio Ramos is still very active at Real Madrid and even in the Spain national team. Though it is said that the center-defender and his wife Pilar Rubio love some of the holiday destinations around Miami, Sergio Ramos might find it difficult to sacrifice his still blossoming football career in Europe for a career in the MLS.

Despite the strictness of the current manager of Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane, Ramos hardly misses a match even though he has passed his prime. The fact that he is now 34-year-old as a defender playing in a top league like the Spanish La Liga has not affected his game much. He is still scoring goals and breaking records.

So far this season, the center-defender has scored two goals in 7 La Liga matches. He has also scored a goal and provided an assist in two Champions League matches this season which has kept him as one of the most important players at the club and one of the best defenders in the world.

Though Sergio Ramos has developed a kind of friendship with David Beckham when the former England international was playing for Real Madrid between 2003 and 2007, that might not be enough to tempt Ramos out of Europe for now.

Even the fact that the Spain international has two friends who are musicians in Miami, Alejandro Sanz, and Marc Anthony, they may not be enough for Ramos to drop his captain hand band at Madrid where he has spent the better part of his career to join Inter Miami.

Two reasons that can make him leave the club before June 2021 is if Real Madrid fail to offer him the two years contract extension he is asking for and if the pay cut Madrid is proposing is too much for him to accept. Besides those two reasons, MLS might not have Sergio Ramos until properly in his late 30s.

No matter how tempting the offer might be, Ramos would want to put his legacy at Real Madrid above any other thing especially if the club agrees to offer him two years contract with or without a pay cut.
