    Real Madrid defender, David Alaba has explained why he celebrated Karim Benzema’s 78th-minute goal by lifting a chair during the UEFA Champions League round of 16-second leg game against Paris Saint Germain.

    In the UEFA Champions League round of 16 games in Madrid on March 9, 2022, PSG’s Kylian Mbappe scored the match opener which gave the French side a 2-0 aggregate lead.

    It was looking like that was the end of the road for the Spanish giants but Karim Benzema leveled the scoreline in the 61st minute and scored two more goals to knock out PSG 3-2 on aggregate. The win sent Real Madrid straight to the quarter-final stage of the UEFA Champions League.

    When Benzema completed his hattrick that sent PSG out of the 2021-2022 UEFA Champions League campaign, the whole stadium went crazy including David Alaba.

    The 29-year-old Australian defender decided to go the extra mile to celebrate the winning by picking up a chair and lifting it passionately to display how happy he was.

    Shortly afterward, David Alaba’s celebration went viral on social media, and most football enthusiasts began to likely the defender’s celebration to a World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) fight.

    Even though the Austrian defender became a laughing stock for the outrageous celebration on social media, Alaba took to his Instagram page to share a picture of the celebration.

    In the caption, the Nigerian-born Austria international who joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich on a free transfer on July 1, 2021, simply wrote: “Don’t you sit in our chair!’

    Days after the game, Alaba was quoted as saying that he did not know what he was doing, adding that the comeback was worth going crazy for.

    “It’s good to try a new celebration from time to time. The seat was great”, David Alaba said according to Daily Mail.

    “I didn’t think about it much, it was the emotion. With a comeback like that you go crazy!

    “The fans didn’t leave us alone out on the pitch, they were behind all our play and we were able to pay them back for it. It was a magical night!”
