Former Chelsea and Liverpool striker, Daniel Sturridge has tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus and would have to quarantine for the third time in three months.

Recall that fitness issues forced him out of Liverpool in 2018 and had to travel to Turkey to join Trabzonspor. His stay at the Turkish side did not last more than a year before he had an issue with the club’s management which ended his reign at the club.

Afterward, the former England international stayed without a club for more than a year before Australian club Perth Glory decided to sign him on October 1, 2021.

Daniel Sturridge started suffering setbacks from the first day he stepped in Australia to start playing out his one-year deal. The first thing that hit him was that he was forced to quarantine for 14 days immediately after he arrived in the country.

This came as a big surprise for him because he had been double jabbed before he left England for Australia. But the Australian authorities could not bank on the coronavirus vaccine that Daniel Sturridge had taken.

After the 14 days quarantine in October, the 32-year-old English star was forced to self-isolate again in December because he came in contact with a Perth Glory player that tested positive for the virus.

On Tuesday, January 25, 2022, Daniel Sturridge took to all his social media platforms to announce that he has finally tested positive for the dreaded virus.

He was among the Glory players that contracted the virus during the club’s camping in Sydney ahead of their clash with Macarthur FC.

Due to the number of players that contracted the virus at the club, the A-League game against Macarthur FC scheduled for Wednesday was postponed indefinitely.

While confirming that he has contracted the virus, Sturridge took to his Instagram story to write: “When I saw the first I thought it was faulty.

“3rd quarantine in 3 months but this time I’ve got it. I’ll overcome it and build my fitness back up when I’m covid free. Thanks for the get-well-soon messages y’all.”

He also took to his Twitter page to write: “3rd quarantine in 3 months 😒. Been ducking and dodging it but it got a hold of me dawg so It’s R and R time. Ill be back on the pitch again when I’m fully recovered. So annoyed right now but it is what it is. Have a blessed day my people.”

Since Daniel Sturridge joined Perth Glory on October 1, 2021, the English football star has managed to make just three appearances from the bench. The former England international has played just 55 minutes of football since he arrived in Australia.

Unfortunately for Sturridge, the Englishman might not have the opportunity to prove himself as much as he would have wanted as his contract with the Australian club would expire on June 30, 2022.
