Embattled former footballer Dani Alves has finally regained his freedom after conviction.
Dani Alves bagged a four-and-a-half-year year sentence for allegedly raping a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022.
He was whisked away by Spanish police in January 2023 and prosecuted for the said offense before his conviction in February 2024.
Before his sentence, Dani Alves’ several requests for bail was turned down by the court as he was considered a flight risk.
However, after his conviction, his defense team led by Ines Guardiola, successfully convinced the court to grant him bail but he was asked to pay a whooping €1m as one of his bail bond.
While on trial, Dani Alves reportedly went bankrupt and had to rely on the largesse and generosity of friends and close relatives to foot his legal bills.
Neymar’s family were among his biggest benefactors. They lended him a legal aid and also paid the £150,000 compensation damage to the alleged victim.
After being slammed with a €1m bail fee, initial reports suggested Neymar’s family will intervene again with a financial assistance to have the Brazilian released.
Against expectations, Neymar’s father Neymar Sr., made it clear that his family will not foot the €1m bail fee slammed on Dani Alves.
The father of Brazil’s football superstar and Al-Hilal winger, Neymar Jr, disassociated his family from Alves’ case, saying he needed to ‘clear his family name from the case’ following Alves’ conviction.
“We are not paying Alves’ bail fee. Full stop. We have to remove out family name from Alves’ trial amid rumors linking the family to the case,” Neymar Sr said.
Against all odds, Dani Alves has reportedly foot his €1m bail fee, as per Spanish outlet, and has now finally regained his freedom after 14 months in Brians 2 prison.
How he has managed to foot the bail bond is yet unclear but Spanish outlets say the legendary right-back must have received a financial boost after his tax lawyer Fernando Santos won four cases against Spanish tax agencies, suddenly keeping the ex-Barcelona defender afloat with a fortune of €7.9m.
Dani Alves’ had his freedom delayed at the weekend due to his inability to foot the bail bond but is now a free man for the first time in several months and will spend his first day of freedom at his Barcelona home.
