Curacao goalkeeper Eloy Room was excited to bag Lionel Messi’s jersey despite suffering a 7-0 defeat to the world champions.
Argentina smashed Curacao 7-0 to grab their second win in the international break with Lionel Messi scoring a first-half hat-trick.
The Albiceleste humbled the Caribbeans with a quickfire set of five goals coming at regular intervals in the first half before making it 7-0 in the second half.
Lionel Messi scored the first goal for the Albiceleste after 20 minutes before Gonzalez got the second for the world champions in the 23rd minute.
Messi hit again in the 33rd and 37th minute to bag his first-half hat-trick with Fernandez slotting in his goal in the 35th minute between Lionel Messi’s last two goals.
Argentina cruised to an emphatic 7-0 win, with Angel Di Maria and Montiel completing the rout with two second-half goals.
After the humbling defeat, Curacao goalkeeper Eloy Room exchanged his shirt with Lionel Messi’s.
The MLS star seems to have shoved the humiliating defeat and comfort himself with the excitement of having Lionel Messi’s shirt.
Speaking with TyC Sports after the game, Eloy Room expressed his happiness of having Lionel Messi’s shirt. He said;
“I have Messi’s jersey – it’s really special. It’s unbelievable, a dream comes true. Everybody is a fan of Messi. Now I’ve played against him.”
Speaking about the game, Room added he had a tough game, especially against Lionel Messi but he is happy he has saved some. He was also happy Lionel Messi commended him for his agility in between the sticks during the game.
“It was a tough game, he scored some goals against me but I also saved some good shots from him. And he told me that, too – that I made some good saves – so that means a lot. I need those saves for YouTube!”
Eloy Room later shared the shot of him receiving the shirt from Messi, including a slide of the jersey hung on his shelf on his Instagram page, and wrote, “No caption needed.”

Born On February 6, 1989, Eloy Victor Room is an MLS star, plying his trade as a goalkeeper for MLS side Columbus Crew. He plays for Curacao national team.
Eloy Room started his football career in the Netherlands where he was born. His fledgling football career was nurtured in SCE youth academy in 1996 where he started as a promising young goalkeeper.
After two years with SCE youths, Eloy Room joined NEC youth academy in 1998 before moving to Union and Vitesse academy.
Eloy spent six years with Vitesse academy from 2002 to 2008 before he made his first senior appearance for the club in 2008.
He played for 9 years for the club, making 133 appearances before he joined PSV in 2019.
While at Vitesse, Eloy Room was sent on a loan spell in the 2014/15 seasons, and his football career began to dwindle when he joined PSV, making just 3 appearances for the club in his two-year stint.
In 2017, Eloy Room joined Jong PSV. He made 14 appearances for the club before he regained momentum in his career after joining Columbus Crew in the MLS in 2019. He has made 96 appearances for the club and has breathed life into his football career in the MLS.
He played for Netherlands U-20 before switching his international allegiance to Curacao.
He made his debut for Curacao in 2015 and has made 45 appearances for the team.
Room won the Eredivisie with PSV in 2017/18 and KNVB Cup with Vitesse. In 2020, he won the MLS Cup with Columbus Crew, including the Caribbean Cup and Kings Cup with Curacao national team.
His individual awards include MLS Save of the year (2020) and Caribbean Cup Golden Glove (2017)
