Crystal Palace vs Newcastle: Newcastle failed to beat 12th placed Crystal Palace in the Premier League as the scoreline ended in a goalless draw. Newcastle have missed a chance to take a grip in the Premier League top four spot.

During the game, Newcastle had plenty of chances to grab the maximum three points, and reduce the gap between them and Manchester City, but they failed to do so.

In the first half, Newcastle dominated the game In terms of creating chances, as many expected, but Crystal Palace’s strong backline was able to prevent the team from scoring.

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Guiata pulled off some important saves to frustrate the Newcastle players.

Newcastle’s best chance of the game came after Joe Willock worked hard on the left flank to give the ball to Miguel Almiron, but the winger hit the side netting.

Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier’s corner kick met Dan Burn, whose volley went straight to Guaita.

Guiata denied Joelinton from getting the opener for Newcastle on two different occasions. Crystal Palace had two clear chances to take the lead late in the first half.

Wilfried Zaha fell in the penalty box under a Trippier challenge, but the referee waved play on as he turned a deaf ear to the Crystal Palace penalty call.

The Eagles had a chance from the corner, but Chris Richards headed over with seconds left in the first half. In the second half, the Newcastle team continues to get more ball possession against the London side.

Trippier’s short cross got into Callum Wilson’s path, who headed straight into Guiata’s hands.

Joelinton tested the Crystal Palace goalkeeper again from 20 yards, but Guiata held the ball as his confidence grew all through the match.

Zaha got withdrawn in the second half due to injury, but the host kept creating chances in the final few minutes.

Crystal Palace striker Odsonne Edouard received a high ball in the air that caused havoc in Newcastle’s 18 yard box.

The ball fell to Mateta, who hit the ball into the top corner, but Nick Pope’s outstretched right arm denied the striker from shocking Newcastle.

Newcastle continue to put more pressure on Guiata, with Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Fabian Schar firing straight at the goalkeeper.

As the clock ticked down to 90 minutes, Newcastle substitute Allan Saint-Maximin failed to capitalize on a Crystal Palace mistake, as his attempt was deflected wide.

However, this is Newcastle’s third goalless draw in four Premier League matches. Furthermore, Newcastle is now in third place with 39 points from 20 games.

The Magpies travel to St. Mary’s Stadium to face Southampton for the first leg of the Carabao Cup on January 24, 2023.

Newcastle still remain the only team to have conceded fewer goals in the Premier League, and Southampton will find it difficult to score against them.

Crystal Palace will travel to England to face Manchester United for the second time this season after a 1-1 draw. The Eagles face the Red Devils at Old Trafford on February 4, 2023.
