Spezia vs Juventus highlights: Ronaldo makes an instant impact after COVID-19 battle
Ronaldo came into the game while Juventus were struggling against the hosts to inspire the 4-1 victory.
Juventus went into the lead after draws with Crotone and Verona. They recently recorded a 2-1 home loss against Barcelona during the midweek Champions League game.
Morata’s shot hit the side-net on a Paulo Dybala pass, before La Joya curled wide of the far post after springing the offside trap.
Morata then got the goal which was later decided by VAR as he was believed to be offside. The Spaniard got the ball on 16 minutes after Danilo’s through ball found Weston McKennie. The American rolled the ball across for the Spaniard to sweep home and the offside flag was raised. But the referee changed the decision as he was behind the line of the ball.
Chiesa’s shot also went wide, and Morata had another goal ruled offside.
After failing to utilize most of their promising counter-attack on the half-hour mark, Spezia eventually equalized as Tommaso Pobega’s strike from the edge of the box took a deflection off either Nzola or Demiral to reach the far bottom corner.
Morata later got into the box and was about to pull the trigger after sprinting down the left, but Chabot made an extraordinary goal-saving tackle.
Spezia then continues to trouble the visitors in the second half stronger, with efforts from Simone Bastoni and Paolo Bartolomei shots charged down. Paulo Dybala had a frustrating night as he was stopped by Diego Farias, who made a crucial challenge to stop the Argentine from running away on the counter.
Ronaldo then made an instant impact after coming on for Dybala, having spent almost three weeks in COVID-19 isolation. He ran on to a Morata through ball, waltzed round Provedel, and deposited into an empty net.
Juve then had to their goal tally through another substitute, Adrien Rabiot, who gathered down the left from Chiesa, cut inside, and scored with his weaker right foot from close range.
Despite a threat from the hosts, Chiesa got into the box and drew the foul as Bartolomei bumped into the back of him for a penalty. Ronaldo converted with a classy Panenka chip.
The win takes Juve back to second on the log with 12 points.
