Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal was full of joy after his national team ended their Euro 2024 qualifier matches on a high note.
Portugal secured a 2-0 win over Iceland at their home ground in Lisbon, concluding their Euro 2024 qualifying games with a flawless record of ten successive victories in Group J.
Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United and SC Braga forward Ricardo Horta were on target for Roberto Martinez’s side, with Cristiano Ronaldo absent from the scoresheet.
Former Sporting CP skipper Bruno Fernandes instigated the triumph with a first-half strike against the visitors, while Ronaldo failed to add to his 10 qualifying goals.
Ricardo Horta locked the victory for Roberto Martinez’s side in the second half, making good use of Cristiano Ronaldo’s brilliant assist.
Portugal’s triumph on Sunday, November 19, meant the 2016 European champions have won every game they have played in 2023 after appointing former Belgium head coach Martinez in January.
The 2016 European winners will be among several other national sides that will be the favorites to win the title in Germany in what could be the former Real Madrid forward last major tournament.
The Selecao led by captain Cristiano Ronaldo wrapped up their campaign with 30 points, a crucial eight points lead over Slovakia which enables the two national teams to book their place in the next summer tournament.
Although Ronaldo didn’t score against Iceland, but the former Juventus star didn’t fail to express his feelings on social media, celebrating his country’s success of winning all their qualification games.
After the game, the 38-year-old took to his social media page and posted a picture of himself and his teammates with the caption; “Historic sweepstakes, 100 percent winning! Congratulations Portugal”.
Judging by Cristiano Ronaldo’s age, the game against Iceland might mark his final appearance in the Euro qualifiers, because by the time the next qualification for Euro 2028 begins, he will be over 40 years old.
However, the Al-Nassr forward is showing signs of no slowing down anytime soon, due to his action towards extending his contract with the Middle East side which will keep him on track until 2026 when the FIFA World Cup will commence in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The 38-year-old has participated in all Euro matches since making his debut in 2004, he has appeared in 25 games for his countryside scoring 14 goals and dashing out 9 assists.
What’s next for Cristiano Ronaldo?
The former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus star will now shift his attention to the Saudi Pro League when Al-Nassr will be playing against Al Akhdoud on Friday, November 24.
However, Al-Nassr presently sits in second place behind league leaders in the Saudi Pro League table, and they’ll be aiming to close the gap as they seek to continue their winning streak against the lowly-placed club side on Friday evening.
