British Journalist Piers Morgan has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to join Arsenal in the January transfer window following his departure from Manchester United in acrimonious circumstances.

38-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo is currently plying his trade in Saudi Arabia for second-placed Al Nassr, for whom he has scored 13 goals in 17 appearances since the turn of the year.

In contrast, he was only able to muster a meager 3 goals and 2 assists in 16 appearances for United before his unceremonious departure from the club.

Ronaldo signed a world-record two-year contract with the Saudi Pro League giants ahead of a January move as a free agent, after his deal at the Red Devils was rescinded on a mutual agreement in November 2022.

The Portuguese and the English giants went their separate ways following a high-profile fallout that included an explosive interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan, during which he publicly criticized manager Erik ten Hag and the club’s owners, the Glazer family.

Morgan, an Arsenal supporter and seemingly a loyal friend of Ronaldo, has now suggested that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner would have been open to joining the Gunners in January, which he believes would have helped the London side win the Premier League title.

The British broadcaster was replying to a comment from a Twitter user who appeared to mock his close relationship with the ex-Real Madrid superstar.

He said: “Mock all you like, but if we’d signed Ronaldo when he left Utd, until the end of the season – as he was keen to do btw – we would have won the League. He knows how to win major trophies, and how to score goals when it really matters.”

Before he departed from Manchester United, Chelsea had also been brought up as a potential destination for Cristiano Ronaldo after co-owner Todd Boehly expressed an interest in securing his services.

But the-then club manager Thomas Tuchel didn’t buy into the idea. It was one of the factors that ultimately led to Tuchel’s dismissal according to reports.

Piers Morgan was in the news several weeks ago concerning his darling Arsenal sharing the spoils with West Ham United.

The British Broadcaster couldn’t hide his anger as he watched Arsenal seemingly “bottle” the Premier League title.
