The incident happened after the Premier League game between Everton and Manchester United at the Goodison Park which ended 1-0 in favor of Everton.
At the end of the game, a picture surfaced showing that Ronaldo bruised his leg and looked a bit hurt. He decided to release some of the bottled-up anger on a young Everton fan who was trying to film the 37-year-old Portuguese star as he was making his way into the tunnel.
Out of the annoyance that Manchester United have blown the chance of qualifying for a UEFA Champions League spot by losing to a relegation-threatened Everton, and that he was leaving Merseyside with a bruised leg, Ronaldo decided to use his hands to knock off the fan’s phone.
After a video of the incident surfaced on the internet, Manchester United reacted almost immediately to stress that they were aware of the incident and were open to cooperating with relevant authorities to resolve the aftermath of the incident.
Shortly after, Ronaldo took to his Instagram page to admit that the incident took place and apologized for his action. He even went as far as inviting the victim to Old Trafford.
Despite that, a spokesperson of Merseyside police told Sky Sports earlier today, April 10, that an investigation into the incident has commenced and that Ronaldo could have questions to answer.
The spokesperson said: “As players were leaving the pitch at 2.30 pm, it was reported that a boy was assaulted by one of the away team as they left the pitch.
“Inquiries are underway and officers are currently working with Everton to review CCTV footage and are carrying out extensive witness inquiries to establish if an offense has taken place.
“Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Merseyside Police social media desk via Twitter MerPolCC or Facebook Merseyside Police contact center quoting reference number 228 of 9 April 2022.”
Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies wants Cristiano Ronaldo to be the captain of Manchester United
After another abysmal performance from the current captain of Manchester United, Harry Maguire in the Premier League game against Everton which ended 1-0 in favor of Everton, Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies, urged the English defender to hand over the captain hand band to Cristiano Ronaldo.
In the last two seasons, Harry Maguire’s defensive and leadership abilities have been heavily questioned by a series of pundits and even the club’s fans. The criticism against him has continued to increase due to how frequently he is often involved in erroneous defending.
Hence, a Canadien defender who is regarded as one of the best wingbacks in the world said via Twitch that it is laughable for a successful player like Ronaldo to be captained by Maguire.
“Guys, can you imagine? You are Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest players of all time, of the 21st century. And his captain is Harry Maguire. He calls him captain,” Alphonso Davies said.
“Give Cristiano the armband. I’m not joking with Maguire, Ronaldo should wear the armband.”
