A solitary strike from Cristiano Ronaldo in Juventus’ clash against AC Milan was not enough from stopping his team from a 4-2 defeat at the San Siro stadium.
After the visitors were two goals up courtesy of Adrien Rabiot and Ronaldo’s strikes, Zlatan Ibrahimovic began a remarkable comeback for the Rossoneri from the penalty spot to secure a memorable victory against title-chasing Juventus.
Franck Kessie restored parity for the host, and Rafael Leao a minute later completed a five-minute turnaround against the current Serie A champions. Ante Rebic took the game beyond doubt with the fourth to secure a memorable victory with 10 minutes remaining.
Juve would have moved ten points clear of Lazio that had earlier in the day suffered a 2-1 loss to relegation-threatened Lecce.
How Zlatan Ibrahimovic helps AC Milan demolish Juventus 4-2
It was initially looking like the game was going to end in a stalemate, not until first-half injury time when the visitors registered their first shot on target.
Rabiot opened the goals account with a spectacular finish from the edge of the box after running with the ball from his half to kick start the contest.
Few days after becoming the first Juventus player to reach 25 Serie A goals in a season since 1961, Ronaldo scored in his fifth successive game from Juan Cuadrado’s pass and left Juve in control.
The momentum shifted to Milan in the second half after they were awarded a penalty. Ibrahimovic converted the spot-kick after Leonardo Bonucci was penalized for handball.
It took Milan just another one minute to draw level through Kessie, who wriggled through the Juventus defence unchallenged to shoot past Szczesny. Leao put the hosts in the lead when he beat Gianluigi Donnarumma at his near post from a tight angle.
Milan continued from where they left off and were eventually rewarded through Rebic, who swept home to seal three points.
The win takes Milan to fifth, which is a guarantee of European football next season after missing out in the Coppa Italia.
Inter Milan will now have the chance to close the gap between them and Juventus to six points if they win their next game against Hellas Verona. A win will boost the confidence of Antonio Conte’s men after suffering a shocking 2-1 defeat to Bologna during the weekend.
