Cristiano Ronaldo could stage a return to Manchester United very soon if the raging speculation is anything to go by. It was reported that Manchester United shirt sponsor Chevrolet is planning to support the club financially to secure the return of the 36-year-old Portuguese and Juventus talisman to Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo had his breakthrough at Manchester United when he signed for the Premier League club from a Portuguese side, Sporting Lisbon, on August 12, 2003, for a transfer fee worth €19 million.

In a couple of months, Ronaldo blew the mind of the then coach of United, Sir Alex Ferguson, that he became the center of the club’s style of play. His brilliance helped Manchester United to win three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two league cup, one Community Shield, one UEFA Champions League, and one FIFA Club World Cup.

Before Ronaldo left Manchester United on July 1, 2009, to join Real Madrid for a then world transfer record fee of €94 million, the 5 times Ballon d’Or winner scored 118 goals and provided 69 assists in 292 appearances in all competitions for United.

Though he is already 36-year-old, he remains one of the fiercest players in the world and the only active footballer to have scored 750 career goals.

In less than two seasons at Juventus which he joined on July 10, 2018, for a transfer fee worth €117 million, Ronaldo has scored 75 goals and provided 19 assists in 98 games.

Chevrolet reportedly believes that the former Real Madrid star could bring a lot of market value to Manchester United besides his performance on the pitch. Hence, the American car manufacturing company is reportedly set to fund the return of Ronaldo to Manchester United.

Such a deal can only be possible if a big brand like Chevrolet agreed to cover the cost because Ronaldo doesn’t come cheap. Besides the transfer fee such a deal might attract, the wages of the football icon alone can go a long way in escalating the budget of any club.

Though a club like United need a player like Ronaldo, they would hardly want to invest so much in a 36-year-old player at this stage of football where the coronavirus pandemic has dwindled the revenue of football clubs across the world.

On the other hand, even if Chevrolet drops the money needed to bring Ronaldo to Manchester United, it might be difficult for the football superstar to join the club if the club can not guarantee him a Champions League football next season.

The club is currently sitting on the 6th spot after recording 3 defeats, a draw, and 6 victories. They have garnered 19 points in 10 league games; they are 5 points away from first placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand.
