Cristiano Ronaldo could play in the Champions League in the 2022-2023 season as Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have reportedly planned a shock move for the Portuguese star.
The 37-year-old made his desire to leave the Old Trafford club known after the end of last season. Ronaldo wants to play Champions League football, but Manchester United only qualified for the Europa League after a disappointing 2021-2022 Premier League campaign.
Since he made his intention to leave Manchester United known, he has been linked to various clubs, but none of the clubs have tabled an offer for the five times Ballon d’Or winner.
Manchester United, on the other hand, did not want to sell Ronaldo and had insisted that he is not for sale.
Before Erik Ten Hag’s Man United overhaul, there were speculations that Ronaldo would be a casualty of the Dutch’s new order in the team. Ten Hag had worked with mainly young players with vigor and strength at Ajax, and the same tactics and team plan were expected at Old Trafford. The possibility of Ronaldo making Erik Ten Hag’s Man United squad was slim due to his age. However, Ten Hag shocked analysts when he stated that he hoped to work with Cristiano Ronaldo in repositioning the club.
Recently, reports from credible sources linked to Old Trafford have disclosed that the club may likely revisit its stand on Ronaldo and is ready to consider offers for the player.
This is coming after Ronaldo did not bend on his intention to leave the Old Trafford club after just a season with the club, with one year remaining in his contract.
His agent Jorge Mendes has made audacious moves to sell the player to top European clubs. The Portuguese agent has reportedly met with officials from Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and PSG to encourage them to bid for the player.
As of the time of publishing this report, it has been confirmed that no club has tabled an offer for Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, the five times Ballon d ‘Or winner was strongly linked with Atletico Madrid, but his wage bill was reportedly far beyond the club. While Bayern Munich has denied reports linking them to the player.
Other clubs have not made any statement confirming or debunking their plan to make an offer for the player. Hence, Ronaldo’s planned Man United exit was at risk with the hope of Champions League football fading.
Interestingly, Cristiano Ronaldo has remained mute as per all the speculations surrounding his Old Trafford future, with the transfer window closing in a few weeks.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s Champions League hopes are not lost as CBS Sports reports that Borussia Dortmund may consider a move for the highly-rated forward. According to CBS Sports, Dortmund is reshuffling options on their table after a new signing Sebastian Haller has been ruled out of the squad due to a testicular tumor.
Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly on the radar of the German giants as they seek a replacement for injured Sebastian Haller. German Bundesliga will be the fourth European League that Ronaldo will feature after spells in England, Spain, and Italy if he switches to Borussia Dortmund this summer.
