Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo

Ronaldo is having a difficult time at Manchester United under new manager Erik Ten Hag.

He has struggled for first-team appearance and is yet to score a Premier League goal.

Manchester United did not qualify for the 2022/23 Champions League after finishing 6th on the Premier League table last season.

In the Premier League, Ronaldo has been reduced to cameo appearances off the bench as he continues to struggle to pick up his form in the Premier League.

Ronaldo has made 3 appearances in Europe’s second-tier club competition – the Europa League, this season.

He scored only one goal during the Red Devil’s trip to Moldova to take on Sheriff Tiraspol. Ronaldo converted a spot kick to double Manchester United’s lead in the game.

Since then, he is yet to register his name in the score sheet for Manchester United.

Nevertheless, Ronaldo’s Champions League record cannot be erased. He is both the top scorer and top assist-giver in the competition.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player to score in all six group matches of the UEFA Champions League group matches.

Since making his debut in the competition in 2013, Ronaldo has made 190 appearances and has scored 140 goals, 15 goals better than second highest goal scorer – Lionel Messi, who has 15 goals.

Ronaldo has also won the trophy more than Lionel Messi, winning it five times, while Lionel Messi has won it four times.

Ronaldo tops the Champions League assist table with 42 assists despite playing as a forward throughout his spell in the competition.

Angel Di Mari

Ronaldo

Argentina international, former PSG, Man United, and Real Madrid, and Juventus player Angel Di Maria won the Champions League in the 2013/14 football season playing for Real Madrid. It was his first and only Champions League trophy since making his debut in the tournament.

He is second on the Champions League all-time top assist-givers with 38 assists; one better than Lionel Messi.

Di Maria currently plays for Juventus and has had more assists for the Serie A giants than the number of Champions League matches.

He has played two Champions League matches for Old Ladies after joining as a free agent from PSG and delivered three assists.

Lionel Messi

A record 7 times Ballon d ‘Or winner, who broke the record by winning it four consecutive times while at Barcelona.

As an attacking midfielder, Lionel Messi is going head-to-head with Cristiano Ronaldo in the number of goals and assists in the Champions League.

Messi is third on the all-time top assist-givers table in the Champions League. He has 37 assists, one less than fellow Argentina Angel Di Maria.

Lionel Messi is also second among the Champions League all-time top scorers, with 125 goals, 15 goals less than Cristiano Ronaldo.

While Ronaldo is struggling with a severe dip in his football career, Messi, who had a similar experience last season with PSG, is currently on fire for PSG this season.

He has scored 5 goals and delivered 7 assists for the French giants this season in the French Ligue 1.

Messi also has 2 goals in three Champions League games this season.
