With a hip injury, Ronaldo missed the Reds’ back-to-back games against Aston Villa, but the 36-year-old will be looking to return against the Bees.

Since suffering a thigh injury while on international duty with France in November, Paul Pogba has not played. The Frenchman last appeared against Atalanta, when he was substituted.

Following an update from interim boss Ralf Rangnick earlier this month, it appears the 28-year-old is ahead of plan.

“As far as I know, I was told a week ago that it would be at least another four or five weeks before he is fit for training again,” Rangnick stated. I’m hoping he’ll return as soon as feasible.

“Right now, he isn’t in the training group, and even if he returns in two, three, or four weeks, it will take some time.”

“It’s one thing to be training fit, but he also needs to be fit for the game and competition in either the Premier League or the Champions League, which will take time.”

United’s number six is unlikely to play against Brentford or West Ham on Saturday, having only recently returned to training.

The World Cup winner might return for the FA Cup fourth round match against Middlesbrough, with the Premier League taking a winter break.

Unlike Pogba, Ronaldo will be looking to get back into Rangnick’s starting lineup against Thomas Frank’s Brentford Community Stadium side.

Marcus Rashford, who was also absent from Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Villa Park, has returned to training, giving Rangnick a triple boost.
