The Major League Soccer (MLS) is under COVID-19 attack as the virus has forced the league body to postpone two matches that would have taken place on Sunday, October 11.

The two MLS Sunday’s fixtures that have been postponed are the Columbus Crew match against Orlando City and FC Dallas’ match against Minnesota.

Columbus Crew match against Orlando City had to be postponed because two staff of the soccer club tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the match. While FC Dallas’ home game against Minnesota had to be postponed because two members of Minnesota’s squad tested positive for coronavirus.

A statement from MLS read: “Both matches were postponed to ensure the health and safety of all players and staff, allowing for further testing and evaluation before travel and competition.

“Further information about the new match dates and times will be announced at a later date.”

Coronavirus has been attacking MLS clubs since September. The worst-hit club in the league has been Colorado Rapids. MLS had to postpone four of the club’s fixtures in separate periods because of COVID-19 cases.

The latest match MLS had to postpone was Rapids’ match against LA Galaxy. According to a statement MLS issued on Friday, the match had to be postponed because a Rapids’ player tested positive for coronavirus.

Before then, MLS has had to postpone Rapids’ match against Sporting Kansas City, the Portland Timbers, and LAFC because members of the club tested positive for the dreaded virus.

Just like some top leagues in Europe including the Premier League, Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga, Bundesliga, and French Ligue 1, confirmed cases of COVID-19 have continued to soar in the MLS.

This could be a very huge threat for the league if cases like this continue to spring up in almost every single club in the league. If this continues, it might not be just about postponing matches but suspending the entire league because of the virus, just like in March this year.

Notwithstanding, the MLS is still going on strong across the two conferences – Eastern Conference and Western Conference. Almost all the clubs have played 16 games each in the Eastern Conference while some clubs in the Eastern Conference have played at least 15 soccer games so far.

Currently, the Eastern Conference is being led by Toronto FC which has accumulated 34 points in 16 soccer games. While the Western Conference is being led by Seattle Sounder with 30 points in 15 games.
