Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is not happy that the season was interrupted by coronavirus at the time the Red Devils were doing better than how the season started.

Between January and early March when the English Premier League was suspended, Manchester United players had the best time of the season, winning 8 games out of 11.

For the first time in the season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s boys had 11-match unbeaten run and kept a series of clean sheets just before the season was halted.

Most pundits believe that the turn around at the club was as a result of the arrival of Bruno Fernandes to Old Trafford.

Fernandes is a midfielder who moved to Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon in January for a transfer fee worth £68 million.

Since he made his first appearance in January, he has scored 2 goals and made 3 assists in the 8 matches he has featured in.

“I think the whole team improved a lot [before lockdown]. We were in a good moment”, De Gea told Manchester United official website.

“I think we were in very good, top form, we didn’t concede many goals, and of course with Bruno [Fernandes] he brings a lot of quality. He’s a clever player, a top midfielder, the team improves with him and it was a pity that everything stopped because we were in a good moment.

“But hopefully with some players that were injured will be fit when it all starts again, so it will be a good challenge for everyone.”

De Gea is one of the most prominent figures in Manchester United, a club he has spent almost 10 years in.

He joined the Red Devils in 2011 from Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid. Prior to his arrival at the club, he was regarded as a replacement for the club’s legendary goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, and yes, he is, after a series of struggle. He now hopes to remain in Manchester United for more years.

“Yeah, I’m getting older. Just to be a part of this club is amazing”, De Gea told the United website.

“So imagine, to be nearly 10 years, it’s like a dream. It’s great to play games with this club, so I hope I can be here for more years, many years.”
