Coach Thomas Tuchel of Chelsea might not have the luxury of enjoying a holiday this summer due to the lofty number of uncertainties at the club and his team’s performance in the 2021-2022 season.

In his first season in charge of Chelsea, coach Thomas Tuchel led the club to a top-four finish, a UEFA Champions League triumph, and an FA Cup final. Afterward, he led the club to win the Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

During that period, coach Thomas Tuchel stressed that he would build a team at Chelsea that other teams will be scared to play against.

When the 2021-2022 season started, it was looking like Tuchel has built his dream team but that perception did not last for too long before injuries invaded the club.

As the club was battling to manage the series of injuries, Russia invaded Ukraine, forcing the British government to sanction the club because the club was owned by a Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich.

Some of the sanctions slammed on Chelsea include a ban on renewing contracts, signing new players, and selling players. Even selling of merchandise and match tickets were put on hold due to the sanctions.

Amid that, a series of Chelsea’s top players, especially Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen were in their last months at the club which meant that they needed a contract extension. But the club was busy battling sanctions and there was no room to continue negotiating with the players. Hence, they had to leave.

From July 1, 2022, Rudiger will become a Real Madrid player while Andreas Christensen could seal his move to FC Barcelona. Also, there are reports that Cesar Azpilicueta, Jorginho, and N’Golo Kante could leave the club this summer.

Hence, just like most supporters of Chelsea, coach Thomas Tuchel can’t wait for Todd Boehly’s takeover process to be completed so that the sanctions placed on the club can be lifted before this summer transfer window opens.

Due to all these uncertainties and the apparent need for Chelsea to undergo a round of rebuilding this summer, coach Thomas Tuchel who helped Chelsea to finish the challenging 2021-2022 season in the top four, said there might not be a holiday for him this summer.

The 48-year-old German tactician whose wife and mother of his two daughters, Sissi Tuchel, filed for divorce over “irreconcilable differences” has noted that he has so many things to “clarify” that there would not be room for a holiday.

“No, it’s impossible to go on holiday. There are too many things to clarify,” Tuchel said. “The disadvantage in terms of timing for the rebuild is big and we have to be fast and smart. It’s a rebuild that is necessary for us and it makes things more challenging.

“We have clear ideas for the profiles and the characteristics of these players, but it’s not like you put a name on the list and then you get the player. You have to convince the player, you have to speak to other clubs. So there’s normally a lot of work to do.”

Based on speculations in the transfer market, Chelsea have already been linked to a couple of players while the club waits for the sanctions placed on it to be lifted.

Top on coach Thomas Tuchel’s wishlist is Ivan Perisic, a winger who currently plays for Inter Milan. Another name on Tuchel’s mind is Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

Italian defender and AC Milan captain, Alessio Romagnoli is also one of the top stars Thomas Tuchel is hoping to bring to Chelsea this summer.

Christopher Nkunku of RB Leipzig, Aurelien Tchouameni of Monaco, Gleison Bremer of Torino, and Ousmane Dembele of FC Barcelona who will be a free agent this summer, are all on Thomas Tuchel’s wishlist this summer.

The good news for Chelsea fans is that Conor Gallagher who has been extraordinary on loan at Crystal Palace and Armando Broja who was also on loan at Palace will return to Stamford Bridge this summer.
