Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has said Man United legend Cristiano Ronaldo has been forgotten at the club following his exit from the team.
Before the 2022 World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United bust up after he granted a controversial and explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
Ronaldo aimed cheeky digs at Man United hierarchy, including Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag.
He slammed the management of the club for a wrong handling of the club and also said he has no respect for Erik Ten Hag.
After the interview, Manchester United terminated his two-year contract, leaving the former Real Madrid star clubless, with 7 months remaining in his Old Trafford contract.
After Ronaldo’s acrimonious Man United exit, there have been talks on the place of the beleaguered forward.
Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined Manchester United from Juventus in 2021. In his controversial interview with Piers Morgan, he admitted rejecting an offer from Manchester City at the behest of Manchester United’s longest-serving former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
In his second spell with the club, Cristiano Ronaldo scored 24 goals in all competitions and emerged as the club’s highest goal-scorer in the 2021/22 football season.
In his first spell with the Old Trafford club, Ronaldo rose to the summit of his football career, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup with the Red Devils.
He first won the Ballon d’Or award with Manchester United before he moved to Real Madrid, where he won it four times again, including three Champions League titles.
Despite the sad ending to his second stint at the Old Trafford club, Ronaldo’s influence at Manchester United may not easily be erased. However, it appears Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen shares a different opinion.
While Eriksen acknowledged that Ronaldo will always be part of United folklore, the Dane admitted that he has already been consigned to history.
‘First of all, we are sad that Ronaldo is not part of it – his legacy and his name at any club is special,’ said Eriksen. ‘For me to be fortunate to play with him in my career was very nice.
‘But the football goes on. You feel that the next game after, people will forget what it was like before and now our focus is really like he is not here.’
Christian Eriksen is one of Erik Ten Hag’s hit signings for the Red Devils this season. Christian Eriksen has played a perfect role of a playmaker for Manchester United.
He has scored and assisted in several games and is a regular starter for the Red Devils. He assisted Marcus Rashford’s 10th goal this season, helping the team defeat Nottingham Forest 3-0.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo is clubless following his Manchester United exit. After a disappointing 2022 World Cup campaign, the five times Ballon d’Or winner was spotted training in Real Madrid’s training facility.
His son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, has joined him out of Manchester United youth team to Real Madrid, where his father has been keeping fit while he awaits a new club.
