Argentine football icon Diego Maradona who successfully underwent brain surgery on Tuesday night is said to be responding very well to treatment at Olivos Clinic in La Plata, Argentina, where the football legend is currently admitted.

Futballnews has reported that Diego Maradona was taken to the hospital on Monday to undergo a medical examination which was not related to coronavirus infection as earlier feared. After the examination, it was confirmed that the retired footballer needed surgery to correct the bleeding on his brain.

The World Cup-winning football icon was then operated upon a few days after his 60th birthday. Maradona’s physician Dr. Leopoldo Luque said: “Diego has been responding very well.

“When we removed the drain he laughed, looked at me, grabbed my hand, and the first impression is it is favorable.

“Diego is without any type of neurological deficit, without any type of complication associated with surgery. He has an excellent post-operative period, the laboratory parameters even improved,” Luque told reporters at the clinic.

“He is in a post-operative period and the moods are difficult to assess.

“The first impression is it is favorable, but it is difficult to evaluate. Diego’s evolution is day by day and in principle today he will be in intensive care as well.”
