Manchester City have emerged victorious in the race to sign 16-year-old Chelsea starlet Ryan McAidoo, beating out Arsenal and Liverpool.
McAidoo, who recently turned 16, showcased his skills at the under-18 Premier League level for Chelsea last season, making four appearances in total.
The Athletic journalist David Ornstein revealed in March that the Gunners are gearing up to spend quite heavily on youth players this summer for the first time in a long time, and the Chelsea youth star could be the first of many to arrive in the coming weeks. But that assertion has been defeated.
City win the race to sign Ryan McAidoo
Despite the strong interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, it is Manchester City who will secure the talented midfielder’s signature according to several reports.
In addition, The Secret Scout, known for its reliable youth football and transfer news, reported on Friday, June 28, that a substantial amount of parents of under-14 players have opted to remove their sons from major clubs.
It is estimated that around 20 players are set to change clubs this summer.
Meanwhile, one of the players expected to make a move is Mcaidoo, who recently appointed the brother of Trent Alexander-Arnold as his agent.
Pep Guardiola’s side has secured his services and he is likely to join their academy soon.
Furthermore, reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the England under-17 international will join City after turning down offers from other top clubs.
Romano wrote: “EXCLUSIVE: Ryan McAidoo leaves Chelsea and he’s set to join Manchester City, here we go!”
“2008-born talented forward decides to join City, deal hijacked after proposals from other Premier League top clubs.”
“Deal in place and huge talent for #MCFC Academy.”
McAidoo played in midfield for Chelsea’s youth teams and earned two England’s under-17 caps in March during UEFA Euro U-17 Championship qualification matches against Northern Ireland and Hungary.
The 16-year-old McAidoo won silverware with Chelsea last season, winning the Premier League under-17 cup against Wolves in the final back in April.
Manchester City’s successful bid for the promising youngster represents a major coup in the competitive world of youth player recruitment.
Fans will be eager to see the 16-year-old stunning striker in action for City next summer.
