Chelsea have confirmed the departure of Diego Moreira from the club to RC Strasbourg on a permanent transfer.
It was revealed that Chelsea included a buy-back clause in the player’s contract. Moreira signed a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 side, which is expected to expire on June 30, 2029.
Moreira will wear the number 7 jersey for his new team.
Moreira could make his debut for the French side against Montpellier on Sunday, August 18, 2024. The Portuguese will reunite with his former Chelsea teammates, Andrey Santos and Caleb Wiley, who are also Strasbourg players.
The Portugal U21 team joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2023 and made one senior appearance for the West London team in the Carabao Cup against Wimbledon last season.
After failing to break into the Chelsea starting XI, the football star was shipped to Lyon on loan during the August 30, 2023, transfer deadline. He made nine appearances for the Ligue 1 giant, Lyon, before he returned to Chelsea in January 2024.
During his playing time at Chelsea, the Portuguese secured himself as a regular starter for the Blues U21 team.
He is an integral part of Chelsea’s U21 success after helping the club secure a Premier League 2 playoff with three beautiful goals against the Arsenal Youth Team.
