The impact of Cole Palmer at Chelsea this campaign cannot be underestimated with another shocking information strengthening that notion.

The Blues have had an underwhelming season, as they sit 9th on the Premier League table with 47 points from 32 league matches.

However, they could have been further down the league table if not for the immense contribution of Palmer.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side slumped to a defeat on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, losing 5-0 to London rivals Arsenal – a game that fully captured the team’s problems this term.

Chelsea were open in defense and blunt in attack, with the Stamford Bridge feeling the absence of Cole Palmer in the game.

Palmer has been the shining light in a disastrous season for the English side, carrying the team on his shoulders and providing them some respite.

His goals and assists have come in handy for the Blues this campaign, as they would have been languishing in the dreaded relegation zone if not for his contributions.

    Chelsea without Cole Palmer

Chelsea would have been sitting on the 18th spot on the Premier League table, 9 positions lesser than where they are currently occupying if not for the impact of Cole Palmer.

They will also have amassed 20 points less than the number of points they have picked up this term (47).

Mauricio Pochettino’s side would have picked up 7 wins, as opposed to the 13 wins recorded so far, while they would have drawn 6 games in comparison to the 8 spoils they have shared after 42 league games.

In terms of defeat, Chelsea would have lost a staggering 19 matches, 8 more than their losses this season

For their goal difference tally which they currently have a healthy +4 divergence, they will be having a -25 goal difference, if not for the Englishman.

Interestingly, Mauricio Pochettino beckoned on his players before the game against Arsenal to show that the team was actually “Chelsea Football Club” and not “Cole Palmer Football Club”.

Anyway, we know how the affair ended as they were pummeled at the Emirates Stadium, as earlier indicated.

Palmer has been highly influential this season, scoring 20 out of the 61 Premier League goals Chelsea have scored thus far.

That indicates about one-third of the goals the Blues have scored, a figure that is expected to increase with about 6 league matches left to play this season.

Chelsea continue to sweat over the fitness of Cole Palmer, but it is expected that he should return for their next league encounter.

However, confirmation is still needed from Pochettino, and he is expected to tell the state of Cole Palmer in the club’s presser ahead of their clash with Aston Villa on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
