Despite falling down the pecking order at Chelsea, Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi has found himself in a hot mess as his former lover has dragged him to court over his alleged failure to pay for child support for their two-year-old daughter.
According to the Sun, the Chelsea striker met Gitte Van Der Elst on Instagram after which they hooked up and began a relationship that resulted in the birth of their daughter. According to her now, she was “flattered” at first but things turned sour and she does not want anything to do with him.
Batshuayi, who has a three-year-old daughter from another relationship, initially denied being the father of the baby after been ordered to pay monthly sums to his baby mother. Van Der Elst was at a criminal hearing last week in Mechelen, near Antwerp to file a complaint against the striker for missing two of £2,067 and being late with several others.
However, according to Belgian law, the court can deem failure to make two maintenance payments “family abandonment” punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine. Batshuayi’s lawyer Pierre Monville blamed the player’s representatives for the missed contributions, adding that payments were now up to date.
Judge Suzy Vanhoonacker adjourned her verdict until next month when Batshuayi is likely to be acquitted. But a separate court ruled he was liable to pay his ex-lover towards the child’s upkeep.
Speaking to reporters after filing a case against the Belgian striker, Van Der Elst said that all she needs is for the Chelsea striker to take care of their baby and be a responsible father.
She said: “As our child grows up I will tell her who her father is but I will also tell her how hard it was for us at the beginning and that he didn’t want to even know her. As for me, I don’t want anything to do with him.”
She went on: “He thinks I just want to better my financial situation but I don’t care about things like that.
“I just want my daughter, I don’t need him. All that matters is my girl’s future.”
