Chelsea have signed Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal to partially offset a flurry of top exits from the club this summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have reached agreement with Villarreal to pay a bit more than Nicolas Jackson’s €35m release clause.
Nicolas Jackson, who plays as a striker for La Liga club, Villarreal, has been a top target on Chelsea transfer radar this summer.
Jackson already agreed personal terms with Chelsea after being convinced of the Chelsea project but negotiations with Villarreal were dragging due Chelsea’s preferred payment plan.
Chelsea did not want to pay Nicolas Jackson’s release clause in full but opted for an instalmental payment plan. Villarreal wanted full payment before letting Jackson joined the London club.
Despite the initial complications in the negotiation process, Chelsea held on to the move as the face a mass exodus of many first team players to Saudi Arabia and domestic rivals.
N’Golo Kante, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly were all on the exit lane from Chelsea to Saudi Arabia.
Kante signed a four-year contract with Al Ittihad. Ziyech reached full agreement with Al Nassr. Kalidou Koulibaly is set to join Al Ahli while Edouard Mendy is joining Al Hilal.
Chelsea also lost Mateo Kovacic to Manchester City and are set to lose Kai Havertz to Arsenal, and Mason Mount to Manchester United.
With the flurry of exits, Chelsea stuck to the negotiations with Villarreal being in desperate need of top 9.
With the leverage of reaching full agreement on personal terms with Jackson, it was pretty evident a deal will be struck.
Now, as per Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have finally gotten it done, bringing the 22-year-old to West London.
The installmental payment plan as initially proposed by the club has been accepted by Villarreal. The Blues are expected to pay slightly more than the €35m release clause.
Jackson is now set for his Chelsea medicals expected in the next few days before official announcement by the club
