19-year-old Chelsea winger and former Santos player Angelo Gabriel is set for a new chapter with Saudi club Al-Nassr.
According to Sky Sports, the Blues have sealed a deal with Al-Nassr for the player. The Brazilian winger is one of the few players who have been caught by Saudi’s transfer net in their prime.
Apart from focusing on gray-haired footballers nearing the twilight of their careers, the Saudis are now spreading their transfer tentacles wide for more young players lately.
Angelo Gabriel will make the list of Chelsea players who have left the club this summer. He joins the likes of Conor Gallagher, Ian Maatsen, and Romelu Lukaku on the permanent exit list in the 2024 summer transfer window.
Chelsea signed Gabriel in July 2023 from Santos. The player has not tasted a single football action with the Blues. He was loaned to French club Strasbourg where he made 24 appearances for the team without finding the back of the net.
Under Chelsea’s new manager, Enzo Maresca, Angelo Gabriel was already set for the exit as the Italian doubled down on streamlining the over-bloated squad to fit his plans. While the club were open to another loan solution, a permanent sale was not ruled out.
Chelsea bags £6m profit from Angelo Gabriel sale to Al-Nassr
An interesting twist to Chelsea’s sale of Angelo Gabriel to Al-Nassr is the £6m profit they have bagged from the deal. Recall the Blues purchased the 19-year-old for £13m and has now sold him for £19m despite the player not playing for the club for once.
It is understood sales like Angelo Gabriel’s have been a great buffer to Chelsea’s heavy spending in the transfer market. In the just-concluded 2024-25 summer transfer window, the Blues are topping the charts of the highest-spending clubs. They have spent £208m on new signings.
In the past four transfer windows, they have splashed a staggering £1.3bn on transfers alone. According to the Telegraph, the Blues have made a concerted effort to balance the books. They have cleared out unwanted names on considerably optimal prices.
This summer, they have recouped £175m from players’ sales alone. This has helped trim the deficit from purchases and possible clashes with Financial Fair Play Rules.
Angelo Gabriel and Other Chelsea departures this summer and the transfer values
Conor Gallagher tops the list of Chelsea players who have left the club on a permanent transfer. Gallagher joined Atletico Madrid for £34m.
Romelu Lukaku, who has spent a large part of his Chelsea career on loan to Italian clubs, is another permanent transfer exit from Stamford Bridge. The Belgium international joined Napoli for £30m.
Also, after loan spells at Burnley and Borussia Dortmund, Ian Maatsen is now a full Aston Villa player. He sealed a permanent transfer to the Aston-based outfit for £37.5m. Angelo Gabriel is the latest name to exit the club on a permanent transfer.
There are also loan exits like Raheem Sterling to Arsenal, Trevoh Chalobah, and Armando Broja, and others.
Angelo Gabriel contract
Angelo Gabriel joined Chelsea on a six-year contract until 2026. He has opened a new chapter away from the London club. His contract details with Al-Nassr have yet to be disclosed.
However, there are suggestions the youngster is set for a long-term spell with the club as he is still in the heydays of his career.
