Chelsea is in the market for a back up striker. With pressure on Tammy Abraham it would only make sense for the Blues to have a back up plan. Chelsea have been reportedly told to sanction a move for wantaway Paris Saint-Germain striker Edison Cavani, because the veteran striker will help Tammy Abraham’s development. The Blues have been linked with a move for the forward after a deal with Cavani and Atletico Madrid went south.

Cavani  stirred up a pot over the weekend by handing in a transfer request at the Parc des Princes. Many clubs are said to have now shift their focused on the striker as they are keen to adding him to their line up. After spending seven years at Paris Saint-Germain, the 32 year old wants to leave and could do so in January. Atletico Madrid are on top of the list in making a move for the striker, but have already had a bid rejected.

That leaves the door open for Chelsea to make a move, as the Blues are desperate for an alternative for their already striker Tammy Abraham.

Abraham has only managed to scored two league goals in the Blues’ last eight games, and has appears to be struggling to hit the back of the net.  With Olivier Giroud looking likely to leave the club during January, Frank Lampard has been tipped to sign a new backup for Abraham.

Cavani is likely to demand a hefty weekly wage, but could be available on the cheap, with PSG reluctant to let him leave in the summer.

Speaking on The Debate, former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison urged the Blues to make the move for the veteran, because he could be the perfect person to help Abraham improve his game.

“I think there’s too much pressure on Tammy Abraham to score all the goals, you need other people chipping in,” he said.

“You’ve got Olivier Giroud, he’s not involved and it looks like he’s moving on. Michy Batshuayi, he sometimes makes an impact, but Tammy needs help. Cavani is excellent, he’s been there, seen it, done it.”

“He scores all types of goals, and Tammy can learn from him. Tammy can learn from his movement, he’s still learning the game, how to play that number nine by himself. He’s in a difficult role, but he’s done ever so well. A signing like that would be brilliant for Chelsea.”

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has disclosed that club striker Edinson Cavani has handed in a transfer request and has told the club that he wants to leave the French club, multiple outlets have reported.

Cavani’s contract expires at the end of the season but the Uruguayan striker wants to leave during the January transfer window, The Uruguayan who turns 33 in February, joined PSG from Napoli in 2013 for £55m and has scored 195 goals in 269 appearances. The striker has also gone on to win different trophies for PSG during his seven-years spell.
